Numb

Marinette tossed her phone to the end of the bed as she climbed under the blankets, hiding under them. Tears swelled in her eyes as the image burned behind her eyelids.

She finally decided that she needed fresh air because sulking in bed wouldn't help any. She threw the blankets back and stood up, marching over to her closet to find a light jacket to wear.

When she turned around from her closet, a box under her bed caught her eye. The traumatic memories that she'd pushed away five years ago flooded her mind all at once. She forgot to burn those stupid letters.

Pulling it out, she set it on her bed, debating if she wanted to open it or not but she knew she had to get rid of them. Her fingers traced over the top, stopping at the middle. She pulled it open and frowned when she looked inside. She'd left the notes stacked neatly inside but they weren't stacked neatly at all. She hadn't touched that box since the day Adrien... or Chat Noir had taken her to the hospital.

The vivid memories replayed in her head. She'd sworn to people it was the akuma that made her do it. But no, she got hit by the akumatized vicitm after she had found herself on top of that building. In fact, the moment she got hit was the moment she'd decided to step off the edge but when she saw Chat Noir falling after her, holding his arms out, trying to grab her before she hit the ground, something changed inside of her. She was pissed at him for jumping after her and risking his life but a feeling of hope and the will to live pushed through her body like an electric shock.

Yet, here she was again. Contemplating on ending her life again before he returned. If he really loved her, he wouldn't have lied to her. He wouldn't have left her to be with someone else.

She scoffed at the thought.

'Does he really think that low of me? To sleep with me and then leave to see someone else?'

Annoyed, she grabbed the box and shoved it back under her bed. She marched herself outside to her balcony and plopped down on a chair.

She took long, deep breaths trying to calm herself down. When she closed her eyes, she tried to focus on everything but that stupid picture.

Marinette sucked in a shaky breath the same time a piercing scream echoed through the city. She jumped to her feet, quickly glancing in every direction trying to see where it came from.

Nothing.

An eerie feeling settled in her stomach as she took a few steps back towards her door. It couldn't be an akuma, right? She had the butterfly miraculous in her possession.

She turned around, darting into her room as she started frantically digging through her things. The last place she put it was in her closet, inside of a box. But to her horror, it wasn't there and neither was the book that held the information of the magical pieces of jewelry.

She started to hyperventilate as she fell to the floor. Marinette felt like her entire world was crashing under her. Of course all of this had to happen when she came back. But then something else dawned on her.

If the new hawkmoth found the butterfly miraculous in her room, wouldn't they have gotten the cat miraculous? Adrien had left it in plain view. But that also meant this hawkmoth knew who she was and was toying with her.

This new villain is targeting Marinette, not the miraculous.

She felt light headed as a thump landed on her balcony. She barely heard it, but she knew what it was.

Her door swung open and she was greeted by a girl dressed in a black leather suit with electric blue seams. Her outfit looked like something out of a horror movie about androids that had taken over the world, pretending to be human.

"Marinette Dupain-Cheng. I have a message for you."

She held out a small piece of paper to the bluenette and Marinette hesitantly took it.

A soft purple outline appeared over the girls face.

"You lied to me!"

The girl screamed out as she fell to her knees. Marinette assumed the new hawkmoth had broken their deal. A white butterfly flew out of her necklace.

"W-What am I doing here? Who are you?!"

Marinette helped the girl up and gave her a hopeful smile.

"You were akumatized."

"But... I thought hawkmoth was defeated!"

Marinette's smile turned into a frown.

"He was, I'm afraid there's a new one. Come on, I can walk you home."

After Marinette dropped the girl off, she walked down the empty streets by herself. Her eyes were glued on the words written on the paper.

'Revenge is a beautiful thing, don't you think?'

Yep. This was it. This was Marinette's breaking point.

She couldn't deal with everything that was going on anymore.

First, she hurt everyone by disappearing, then she found out that Adrien was, in fact, seeing someone else, and now someone had stolen the butterfly miraculous from her room for revenge. She'd bet money that the same person was the one to snoop through the letters under her bed.

When Marinette got home, she went to her room and nearly collapsed to the floor. She wanted to cry, but no tears would come. She wanted to scream, but her lungs wouldn't let her.

She wanted to die but...

Wait, there wasn't anything holding her back from that.

She forced herself up and into the bathroom, locking the door even though no one was home.

Her hands shook as she dug through the drawer, pulling out the tiny razor.

It was funny how something so small could cause so much damage.

She held it to her arm, not thinking twice.

Three

The blood seeped through her skin, dripping to the white tiles on the floor.

Four

Six

The cuts went deeper every time the blade met her skin.

Seven

She started to feel lightheaded as the blood was now pooling on the floor around her.

Her vision became blurry as she closed her eyes. Still, the blade found her arm.

Sixteen

Ninet...

The blade collided with the floor, followed shortly by Marinette.

Sorry for the rushed chapter! I'm going out of town this week and everything has been hectic!

I also hate adding picture references to the chapters, especially in the middle of the story but I think I'll add them at the end of each one to kind of give you guys an idea of the outfits the character(s) are wearing/ what I had in mind for them. Mostly just the villain outfits.
