Marinette sat quietly at the dining table as her hand rested on the now cold tea mug. The notebooks and letters she'd wrote years ago was scattered across the table. She already knew what was written on each piece of paper. Just looking at them brought back horrible, unwanted memories. She planned to burn them later.
She closed her eyes, leaning her forehead against her other hand that propped her head up. Marinette took in a shaky breath as she felt a hand land on her shoulder, giving her a firm, reassuring squeeze. "Your tea is getting cold, M'Lady."
Marinette couldn't stop the sad smile that tugged at her lips. No matter how bad she felt, Adrien was always there to pull her out of that deep, depressing hole. "And if I must say..." he leaned down, resting his chin on her shoulder with a smile. "...you are mighty gorgeous."
Marinette snorted and gently pushed him away as her cheeks turned a light shade of pink. "See? I knew you couldn't hide that smile forever. Now, come on! We're going to be late." The bluenette nodded and stood up as Adrien headed to the door that led out of the kitchen. "I'll be down in a moment! I forgot something." She called after him before turning back to look out the large windows that ran from the floor to the ceiling. Marinette preferred something smaller when they went apartment hunting but Adrien insisted that she would get the best that they could find.
So here they were. In a very oversized and expensive apartment. It resembled a very, very nice house more than an actual apartment. She grabbed her purse from the counter and checked herself over in the reflection of the window and quickly walked down the stairs that led to the main living room area.
When Adrien saw her, he smiled and handed her a coat as he opened the door for her, locking it behind them. "So, are you ready to see everyone?" Marinette nodded as she locked her fingers with Adrien's. "I'm excited that everyone was finally able to choose a date for the reunion. It took months to plan!"
Adrien nodded in agreement as they made their way to his car. He opened her door and closed it after she got in, walking around to the drivers side to let himself in.
Shortly after, they pulled into a busy parking lot. "Looks like the whole school decided to show up." Marinette swallowed the lump in her throat as she opened the door and stepped out into the cold night air. "It's never to late to back out." Marinette shook her head and tightened her grip on her purse strap. "No, no. I'm okay. I just have a feeling that someone will eventually mention something about..." her voice trailed off but Adrien knew exactly who she was talking about. "Hey, don't stress it." He wrapped his arm around her shoulder and pulled her closer to him as they walked into the club.
"Marinette! Adrien! You two finally decided to show up. Now we can finally start the reunion." Alya smiled, taking her best friends arm and dragging her away from Adrien. "We'll be back!" Alya called back to Adrien as she kept her pace. Marinette turned back to look at the blonde who was giving her a side ways smile until Nino came up to him. "Someone has been asking about you and I promised him that as soon as I saw you, I'd drag you with me to meet him." Alya walked fast as she pulled a stumbling Marinette behind her. "Wait! Who?"
She finally stopped walking when they got out of sight from everyone. Alya turned around, wrapping her arms around the bluenette. "I know what today is and just so you know, you're not going through this alone. Okay?"
Alya raised her eyebrow as she looked Marinette over. "I guess. It's just been difficult. Not as bad as before but... still difficult."
"I know, girl. But hey! You always got me to talk to. Now, hurry up!" She grabbed her friends wrist again and started dragging her yet again to a table where a familiar looking man sat. Alya pushed Marinette into the seat in front of him and smiled. "I'll tell Adrien you're catching up with a friend. See y'a later!" Alya smirked, happily turning back into the direction she just came from.
