ReptileEdgeBasically a way to tie up some loose ends, also being fan service, to the long night rewrite. Also, a bit of the last chapter comes into this, just to remind you where we left off (sort of like a recap).
3rd Person P.O.V.
Now it was just Spinel and Batman. Spinel looked like she was going to follow Pink Diamond, but...
"Spinel..."
She stopped and looked over her shoulder.
"I'm sorry from earlier." Batman murmured.
"Oh..." Spinel had already forgotten about that. "Um, apology accepted... Can I talk to Moonlight again...?"
"Do what you want." Batman replied. "She has nothing to fear anymore."
He turned around and went to walk to the Palace doors.
"Hey, Batman."
He stopped and turned around, because he heard pattering feet coming his way and then he was enveloped into a hug by Spinel. Her noodle-like appendages coiling around his torso. Spinel nuzzled her head into his ballistic armor chestplate.
He was stunned by this action, because he had never been hugged while as Batman before. Since it was so quiet and Spinel was pressing her head so hard against his chest, she could faintly hear a heartbeat behind the exterior of his body. She wasn't sure if she found it erotic, therapeutic or eerie.
However, Spinel didn't have enough time to determine which one it is because he finally had control of his arms to gently push her away.
"Thank you..." Spinel said, after the long silence.
Batman wasn't entirely sure how to show affection without doing what she just did, so he just put his hand on top of her head and ruffled her hair before he left the Palace. Spinel didn't bother fixing her hair, she only slightly brushed it off her eyes.
Spinel wasn't going to tell him this just yet, but she knows who he is under the mask. Well, she doesn't actually know what he looks like under the mask, but she does know his name and origin story. Pink Diamond explained it to her like gossip as they drew, but Batman never heard them talk about it, fortunately for them.
This must have occurred during Batman's fight with White Diamond, because he wasn't paying attention to anything else other than her. After being told what happened to him, what he did before becoming Batman, what he did recently up until now, it all made sense for Spinel why Batman is the way he is. She also has a sense of connection towards him a whole lot more than she originally did.
Before, Spinel just thought that Batman was the kind of person to have just gotten fed up with big influencers taking advantage of the weak and helpless. But after being told why, she understands that he is doing what he humanly can to prevent it from happening to anyone else. It felt so commendable that someone like Batman, who has the power and wealth to do whatever he wants, chooses to become someone that's supposed to scare off evil and injustice that plagues his home and anybody else.
Spinel, herself, found it hard to keep being a nice gem after all she's been through. As well as she found it even harder to keep going just to stay alive. To know that someone else went through a similar pain where they found it hard to remain good just motivates Spinel into keeping her well-adjusted attitude and demeanor.
