Checkmate- Conan Gray
"Checkmate!" He exclaimed, pumping his fists into the air. "You've gotta be shitting me" the other rebutted.
The two had been going about the game for two hours now and every time there was the same winner. "Sounds like a sore loser to me" she chimed in from behind the men.
Ford leaned his head back to greet his girlfriend with an upside down kiss. "Thank you Lizzie! Ford, we have been playing for hours and you lose every time, so why are we still playing?" Bradley questioned.
"Fantastic question, I don't know" Ford chuckled, swiping the chess pieces from the table. "Well, it's been fun but I gotta get on home" Bradley stood from his chair.
"See you on the pitch tomorrow bud" he patted his friend's back. Ford and Elizabeth sat cuddled into each other on the couch. The man groaned as he cracked his knuckles in front of them.
"I hate that stupid game" he pouted, bringing his head to rest on top of hers. "You only say that because you lose each time you play it" she scolded him.
"Well, still.. it hurts!" He chuckled at her. "I like to see you get all mad, it's honestly hot" Elizabeth smiled, shyly. "Is that so?" Her boyfriend questioned, wiggling his eyebrows.
"You're such a damn goof" she chuckled, pecking his lips. She then stood from her position, making her way to the kitchen of their shared apartment.
She was surprised when she saw two arms on either side of her a few minutes later. Turning in his arms, her toothy grin widened as she was met with the man she loved so deeply.
"Seems like you're trapped there ma'am" he teased, attempting his best southern accent. "Indeed I am cowboy, won't you come save me" she played along.
His once charismatic self, scorned on the memory. He hated just how much the word got to him. It left a distaste in his mouth, the bitterness succumbing the thought.
He hated Bradley in general.
The word had been something the two would shout after they beat each other at something. Such as a game or an event, or sleeping with your best friends girlfriend while he's visiting his sister on her high school graduation day.
"The pubs closed lad" a voice added. A bartender, finding herself staring at the condensed figure before her. His arms folded, his head laid firmly against them as he somberly drank his feelings. "Any sympathy for a grieving man?" the man asked, not daring to move from his position.
"Afraid not, my boss will have my ass if I let any customers stay past closing" she replied with a chuckle. He pulled himself up, leaning back a bit on the barstool to look at the woman. He was quite fond of her accent, noting how much it reminded him of Florence.
"I'm sure your boss wouldn't mind if he knew that Manchester United's newest forward was sat as his pub" he laughed, drunkenly. The bartender smirked slightly, choosing her next words very carefully.
"Someone has a big ego, don't you mate? Alright I'll bite, are you Manchesters newest forward?" the woman teased. "If I answer yes, can I get your number?" he questioned, leaning against the bar again.
"Oi blondie! Get this wanker out of my pub" a man shouted from the threshold of the room. "Oh but I think you might want to meet this wanker" she replied, gesturing to her boss. "This here is the newest forward for Manchester United" she introduced Ford.
She sent a look to the man as if wanting him to catch on to her teasing and playing. "Right! How'd do mate?" he chuckled to the younger man still sat on his barstool. "Livin' the dream. Think I could get another beer?" Ford replied sarcastically.
