How did it get to this point?
How did one phone call turn into a death threat in the darkness?
~~~~~
"Violet, I don't think you should be doing this, why don't we just call the police?" Alison fretted, watching the girl who was sat on the sofa clutching a phone tightly in her hands.
"Because then she knows I'm scared."
"But you are scared."
"Robin!" Pat turned to the caveman warningly, now was not the time for smart comments, even though he knew his friend was just making an observation. It was as clear as anything that Violet was truly afraid. That moment approximately ten minutes ago where everyone was informed of the deadly note from April had proved it.
"You don't have to do this," Mike reminded the girl, but she was already tentatively pressing the digits into the phone, ready to dial the number.
"I do, I can't back out of it," Violet simply said, pressing dial before leaving the room quickly.
"I really don't like this," Kitty nervously said, hands twiddling together.
"She's a brave girl, she knows what she's doing," the Captain nodded, trying to reassure not just himself but everyone else too.
~~~~~
"So you finally called."
"What do you want, April?"
"Ha! Not even calling me mum anymore, ok. We're at that point are we?"
"We always were."
"Oh you think you've got it all now don't you! Forgetting about everything I did for you."
"You did nothing for me! Absolutely nothing!"
"Now, now, Violet. It's about time that something did happen then. You listen to me, I know where you live, in that big posh house. You've got money, and I want, no, you're going to give me everything you have."
"You're insane! You think I'm gonna give anything of what I have to you?!"
"I know you will. Oh little Vi, I know people who can make your life a misery. Meet me in the alleyway off of Merryway in 4 hours. Do as I say."
And with that, April ended the call, and Violet slammed her phone down in frustration.
~~~~~
The girl marched off upstairs into her room without a word to the others.
"I have an slight inkling she is about to take action based on how her heart is feeling rather than how her brain is thinking," the Captain sighed, tapping his baton against his leg as he thought.
"Yes, she's going to do something stupid isn't she?" Julian nodded along.
The two of them would be a sight to see right now. Both of their faces twisted in the same way deep in thought as they stared at the steps Violet had just taken.
"What are you doing?" Fanny asked from behind them, a brow arched upwards in disdain at the two.
"Oh, uh, nothing-" Julian jumped as he of course went into instant denial mode, something he would regularly switch on.
