T.W. - Talk of Self Harm
Wednesday
I knew she'd ask about this."Need we talk about this?"
"...yes!"
I pinch the bridge of my nose with one hand, steering with the other.
"Where do you want to eat?"
"I don't know. So..."
"You know I don't like talking about this kind of thing."
"How about I talk first?"
"About what?"
"...feelings."
"You talk about that a lot."
"Yeah but, different feelings."
I look at her. She looks down in response.
"Suddenly the floor is interesting, huh?Looks like I have to ask. What feelings?"
"Can we talk at the place?"
"You started this, but fine."
We drive in silence, past multiple streets and stupid stores.
"Can we go here?" Enid asks, pointing at a bright diner.
I sigh.
"Yeah."
"Yes!" She exclaims, pumping her fists.
I park on the street and we walk towards it. The people on the sidewalk make way for me.
"You've got a reverse paparazzi thing going on don't you?"
"Interesting way of saying people are scared of me."
She opens her mouth for a second but closes it again.
I pull open the door and step back for Enid to enter first.
"Aww, thank you."
"Mhm."
We find a place to sit.
"Don't you love this vibe? Of course you don't. Anyway, it's so cute, right?"
"If cute means making me want to throw up, then yes."
She makes a gross face.
"So. Let's address the elephant in the room." I say, leaning on the table.
"Oh, uh..." her eyes dart back and forth.
She takes a deep breath.
"Have you ever, uh, hurt yourself?"
"Obviously. One time I was trying to attach Pugsley to a electroshock table, but I accidentally-"
"Yeah, haha, anyway, I don't know why I asked that, that wasn't the feeling or anything." Enid hurriedly says, forcing a laugh.
"Wait-"
"What can I get you two today?" The waiter asks, walking up to us.
"Oh, hi! This water is fine, and uh, I'll have the Caesar salad, please, small!"
"Gotcha! And what about you?"
