"Do you want a big wedding?" I'm snapped out of my trance to Leandro's velvety voice. I was looking out the window, and watching London pass by. "Uhm, not really, it's really going to be your decision"
"Why? It's your wedding. You make all the decisions, you're the bride."
"Y-you trust me with the w-wedding?" I'm confused. Why would he trust me with such a big task?
"Yes, yes, I do. Why are you so surprised?"
"I- uhm, no reason"
"Okay, if you have any concerns as to what I'll like or dislike, contact my assistant. Also, because of deadlines, we have to get married before the end of the month" He goes back on his phone, no doubt working. He pulls something from his pocket, and hands it to me.
"Here. Use this card for all your purchases, from now on. And this is my business card, with my personally number on it and my assistant's. Use it when needed" I nod my head, and take both in my hands. I peek at the fancy black card. It has my name on it, with my maiden name. He remembered. He remembered that I hate being referred to with my father's last name, and that it's legally changed to Marlenis.
He remembered.
Oh, don't get ahead of yourself. Maybe because you're the only one with that name.
I drop my hopeful shoulders, and slide the card in my purse, and pull out my phone. I add the contact for Leandro and his assistant. After a few minutes, the car comes to a stop in front of a huge skyscraper. It read Marsai & Co. and has windows so clean they were reflecting the sunlight. The building had to be at least twenty floors, the way it stood high in the sky.
Leandro walked out of the car, and I followed him, almost running after him. We have a quite great height difference, with him being over 6 feet, and me still being quite short, even with 5-inch heels on my feet.
He quickly walks to the entrance door, and I run after him, already being out of breath. He goes straight for the elevator, and I walk by his side, with my head down. I can't stand their faces. Imagine if they started laughing at me, or worse, treating me with derogatory names, simply for being unwillingly committed to him. Although, they could call me every word they know, it wouldn't hurt me, since I've heard it all.
We walk in the elevator, and he presses the button for the 25th floor. My eyes immediately turn to him, but he's too busy looking at his watch. I gulp down the nervousness, and stand up straight. The ride up doesn't take long, and when we get up there, a glass hallway opens in front of us. We walk through, and I notice an office with a woman working. She looks surprised to see Leandro as she rises to her feet, and nods to him respectfully. "Mr. Marsai, my name is Jenny, and I'm your new secretary, since the other one got fired. I'm here if you need anything."
Leandro doesn't say anything, he simply nods and walks away. I look at Jenny and smile at her. I mouth a quick 'thank you' before walking off in Leandro's direction. I open the double door at the end of the hallway, not before walking, and effectively, it looks like his office. The wall facing the door is completely covered in windows, giving a good view of London. There's a couch and a coffee table on my left side, and there is a large, black desk, on which Leandro was currently leaning on.
I close the door, and simply lean on in, while waiting for Leandro's next move. He sits down at his desk and opens his computer. Immediately, the double doors open behind me, and I'm pushed down on the floor, as someone comes barging in.
"Boss, I'm so sorry, my flight was delayed, but I'm here now-what are you doing on the floor, miss?" A man in his mid-twenties walks in holding an iPad and a cup of coffee in his hands.
"You pushed her." He looks down at me, and his face morphs into an apologetic one. "I am so sorry, I had no idea that you were behind the door. I am truly sorry. Are you hurt?"
"No, I'm fine-"
"Why would you care?" Leandro booming voice startles the both of us, as I clutch onto the man's forearm, for support. He helps me up, and we both dust ourselves without a word.
"I have a last-minute meeting about the budget. Leave her here, we have more things to do." The man nods, and Leandro gets up, shuts his computer, and walks to the door.
"I'm sorry, my name is Vincent, and I'm Mr. Leandro's assistant" The man stays back and holds his hands out for me to shake. I do and introduce myself as well. "Lunae, his fiancée, nice to meet you as well"
"Alright then, I have to go to the meeting as well, if you need anything, simply call the secretary-"
"Vincent!"
"Yes boss!" Vincent, shoots me a small smile, and runs off in Leandro's direction. He closes the door and renders me alone, without help. I sigh, and take a seat on the couch. I pull out my phone, and ring up Alphonsine. He's right, I should probably start planning our wedding.
Our wedding. It sounds so weirds coming out of my mouth. It's like a foreign taste, and I can't help but to accept it is, as it is my reality now.
"Hello?"
"Hey Al, remember when I told you that I was engaged?, well, he just asked me if I wanted a big wedding, and that reminded me; I need to plan a wedding. Can you help me, I don't know where to start".
"Uh, yeah, I can help you, just give me a sec....... Sorry, I hate to get out of a meeting. Okay, you know what? I'll help you once I get there, but right now, I'm getting the reservation for my hotel in London."
"That's okay, we'll talk tomorrow. Do you need someone to pick you from the airport?"
"Kiandre said she would"
"Alright then, I'll see you tomorrow" I hang up the phone, and start looking up wedding planners. I note down a few numbers, and then I look up wedding dresses. I didn't want anything too revealing because of my scars and bruises, so I made sure to include it in the search.
And that's precisely what I spent the rest of the afternoon doing.
Btw, if you guys were confused about the abuse, her father used to throw her around like a rag doll, and after going to the hospital once, he started doing it lightly enough not to send her to the ER, but still to an extent.
So no, she doesn't have broken ribs or anything like that.
