"Where on earth were you? I thought I told you to stay put and stop causing me problems." He stalks towards me.
"I'm sorry, I thought, since you didn't need me, I'd go to the beach for a while. I'm sorry". I lower my head.
"Whatever, get dressed for a yacht party. I'm coming to pick you up in an hour. Please, don't embarrass me." He walks past me and bumps my small frame in the process. I sigh, and head to my room. I rummage through my bag, which just seems to have an infinite supply of clothes.
I pull out a teal two-piece dress, which has a revealing cleavage, but I can cover it up. I pull out another baby blue dress, and I weigh out my options. I've never been to a yacht party, let alone a party. I take my phone and dial Alphonsine.
"Hello?" her gruff voice responds. Oh yeah, I forgot she told me she would be traveling today.
"H-hey Al. I kinda need your help, if you're not busy?"
"I- uhm, I'm kind of figuring this out, let me call you once I've gotten on the train. That'll hopefully take less than 10 minutes".
"O-okay" She hangs up, and I head to the shower, to get ready while she calls me. The curls in my hair faded slightly, so I quickly fix that with the curler. I dab a little makeup and cover the larger bruises that are slowly starting to fade. Some of them look infected, so I might have to go to the doctor for them.
I've never revealed my situation to anyone except Kiandre and Alphonsine. And that took immense courage. Courage I didn't even know I had. My father forbade me from speaking of my condition to anyone, and I got a harsh beating once I told the girls. I couldn't keep the secret any longer from them, my sister. They saw me limping, acting as if nothing was wrong, my constant wincing.
I still remember how supportive they were of it, and that's what sealed us.
"Some people are with you for a reason, a season, or a life"
This is a quote that my mother used to tell me when I told her that no people at school wanted to friend me. I didn't understand it until I met my girls. I suffered from loneliness until I met Kiandre. She helped me partially overcome my stutter and gave me a friend for life.
My phone rings from the room, and I run up to I and answer it. It's a video call, so I position the phone correctly.
"Hey, I'm invited to a party, and I don't know what to wear, help me choose, please?"
"Okay, show me your choices." I show her the two dresses displayed on the bed. "Light blue would look the best on you"
"While you're getting dressed, tell me about your day" I unzip the dress as I sigh. "So, We're in Greece. Last night when we got here, Leandro didn't stay in the room. I waited up for him for a little while before going to sleep. When I woke up, he still wasn't there, so I got up, and went to the beach with my army of bodyguards."
"Army? How many?"
"6, Including my bodyguard, Blake"
"Damn, He has the audacity to leave you on your wedding night, not be there in the morning, and send a fleet of bodyguards with you? I didn't like him before, and I surely don't like him now".
"Calm down, Al. After the beach we went to go eat some Mediterranean food, that was wonderful. But when we came back, Leandro got angry at me for leaving the house, and told me to get dressed for a yacht party, which I'm doing right now".
"Okay, when I meet him, I'll put him in a coma. Is he nearby?"
"I don't know, and I don't want to go look for him, Alphonsine. Where are you traveling anyway?" I finally slip the dress on me before grabbing some jewelry on me. More specifically, my mother's necklace that I was wearing on my wedding day.
"I'm in Japan"
"Seriously? Bring me some souvenirs, will you?"
"I will. You look very pretty, Demeter" I giggle at her use of my goddess alias.
"Thank you, Artemis" I compliment her back and stuff my bag with useful things. I dab a little foundation on the peeking scars and blend it out. I grab my heels and slide them on.
"I have to go, Al. Thank you for the help".
"No worries, Lunae. Call you soon?"
"Yep, See you" I hang up, and look at the time. I took 45 minutes to get ready, it's okay if I walk out early, no?
I take a deep breath and walk to the living room, anxiety bubbling in my stomach for the night ahead.
This chapter is quite short, but I'm rolling with it. Also, the yacht party is quite boring.
Yall, I couldnt publish after my exams. I moved (again) and in the process I physically could not write as I was dealing with a severe allergy as well that landed me in the hospital. Hope you understand!Dioné Valentine, Out!
