"My scars and bruises are visible, Kiandre. You know I'm insecure."
"Okay, put makeup or a blazer on then. Because you look too good not to go out in this outfit" I lightly blush at the compliment and smile.
"Be right back." I walk back to the room, and I pull out my concealer, dabbing it on the spots that need it the most. When I'm satisfied with the result, I walk out of the room, not before grabbing a white blazer from Kiandre's room.
"Stunning. Let's get going." She grabs my hand, and I almost trip running after her, but I quickly compose myself. Our Uber is already here, to take us to the city. "Kiki, where's your car?"
"See, I knew you missed it"
"I don't. You love that things like it's your child." She chuckles and I smile.
"It's still in Chicago. I left it there, because I didn't think that I was going to stay here for long, but now..."
"Now what? Tell me".
"When you came, I was talking with Clementine about moving here, and how I had bought a considerably large piece of land to build on it. It was the cheapest option, but please don't be mad" as soon as she uttered these words, the mood shifted. Kiandre is my life support, and her moving here means that I have no protection from my father, and I don't have a shoulder to cry on.
But you have Leandro.
I don't know if Leandro can ever replace Kiandre. And anyway, we are arranged to be. Let's keep it this way.
"Lunae? Are you okay?"
"Y-yeah, I'm fine. Just upset" I wrap my arms around her neck and inhale her smell. "I'm going to miss you."
"Me too, but you have Alphonsine. And she can defend you better than I could ever. I still remember when that 16-year-old boy came to your house asking to meet you, and I chased him away with a pan and a head wrap on my head" We both burst out laughing, and just like that, the cloud of discomfort is lifted.
"We are going in town to pick up something for Alphonsine, and to remake your closet"
"W-wait, what do you mean remake my closet?"
"You have been wearing these same clothes for the longest time, and anyway, you are engaged, to a businessman no less! We need to make sure you look popping at any time." I smile at her and let her drag me out of the car and into multiple stores. We first went to a jewelry store, and we picked up a bracelet, identical to our matching ones, except hers is in red.
"Wait, I thought she had one?"
"She lost it when she went to the pool the other day" and just like that, her attention is turned back on the sales assistant. "Can I get these, and these two matching sets please?" The sales assistant grabs the pieces and rings us up. Kiandre pays for the hefty diamonds and beckons me out of the store.
