Y'all are going to hate me for this.
This morning, The one goal I had was to be able to talk with Lunae. I still don't see why I should give her the benefit of the doubt, but I'm willing to give it a try. Especially because my sister-in-law and my mother will kill me if I don't.
I shrug a simple white tee on me, and head for the kitchen. I start making some chocolate chip pancakes with some fruits on the side. The outside looks rough.
"Boss, Where's Miss Marsai?"
"You're her bodyguard. You should know".
"It's just that there's a storm brewing outside, and she said that she had to run an errand" That catches my attention, enough for me to turn around, and grab him by the collar.
"And you let her go? What kind of bodyguard are you?"
"I-I-argh, i-"
"Out of my sight" I head to my room quickly and grab a hoodie and some sneakers. I can't talk with Lunae if she's trapped in a storm. I head outside, and it's already started to rain to an extent. I find the driver and start shooting questions as to where she went.
"S-she went to the graveyard, sir. I told her to call me when she was ready for me to pick her up"
"Bring me there. A storm's brewing." He nods, and we get in the car. After a while of driving, the rain progressively gets worse.
"Sir, are you sure? the rain is becoming stronger-"
"Just drive"
We finally get to the graveyard. I walk to the little funeral home and find a receptionist.
"Hello there, what can I do for you?"
"I'm here for my wife. Do you perhaps know where she is?"
"I haven't seen her leave the graveyard, and I saw her heading in the direction of the 600's"
"Thank you" I walk out, and raise my hood, heading in the direction.
Why are you doing this? you don't care.
But I want to. I want to care.
I mute out the negative thoughts, once I see a black hunched figure weeping and crying. I look at the sign, and it's indeed the section of the 600. I squint my eyes even more to make sure it's her. I struggle to recognize her since I've never seen her wear black, but the peek of her blonde hair contradicts all other evidence.
I start walking towards her quickly, due to the rain, but speed up when I see her losing her balance and wobbling on her knees. I get to her just in time for her to fall back into me. I toss the umbrella away to be able to hold her in my two arms.
"Shh, it's okay" I say to Lunae, Who probably fainted. I wipe the tears off her face, which are quite cold. I cradle her in my arms, hoping to give her as much heat as possible.
The clash of thunder reminds me that there's a storm incoming and that I should probably get going. I lift her frail and fragile body in my arms, and almost gasp. She's so light, what is she eating?
Right before I walk off, I throw a look at the tombstone.
Here Lies Malika Nesrine Marlenis Jacobsen.
Who's Malika? probably her aunt. I walk away with her, towards the car. Quickly, but carefully, I place her inside the car and get in safely. The driver starts the car and hurries home, since the storm is getting really bad.
We finally get home, and I bring her straight to my bedroom. I lay her her on the comfy couch in my room, and turn on the heater higher. She needs to warm up. I take the opportunity to change out of the clothes I'm wearing and to put on some house clothing since I can't go to work.
You're just going to hurt her.
She's not worth it.
She's just a contract.
You don't need to care for her.
So many conflicting thoughts. My head is telling me to stay focused on my business, and me, but my heart is telling me to let her in. To at least care about her. Until our time is up.
Who knows, maybe I'll find something along the way.
I head back downstairs and grab the food that I had made before going to get Lunae. I simply warmed it up and started plating. I was so lost in my own thoughts, that I didn't hear the delicate footsteps coming towards me.
"L-Leandro?"
