Hi everyone! I posted this story a while ago but took it down to work on it some more. It mostly has two POVs between the two main characters. I know there are a lot of shifter stories but I couldn't help trying my hand at one, I love these types of books =) Hope you enjoy it!

Prelude
I held Mrs. Peter's hand as I looked up at the stern-looking woman who was my new guardian and also my aunt. I had been staying at my best friend Millie's for the past week, ever since my parents' car accident had taken their lives. I didn't really remember my aunt but had been told she was my daddy's sister and that I would now live with her.
"Hello Liana, "Aunt Carol said, eyeing me for a moment.
"Hello Aunt Carol," I said softly.
Aunt Carol glanced at the woman still holding my hand. "Thank you for bringing her," She said briskly. "And for letting her stay with you this past week. I had things to arrange now that she will be living with me."
Mrs. Peter's nodded, her eyes sad. "It is no problem, we all love Liana. My daughter Millie is also four years old and she and Liana are best friends," She smiled softly down at me.
I nodded.
"I'm sorry you weren't able to attend the memorial for your brother and sister-in-law," Mrs. Peters continued. "It was very nice. They were cared about by a lot of people."
"Yes, well. Like I said, I had things to arrange," Aunt Carol said, looking briefly at me before focusing back on Mrs. Peters. "I appreciate you handling the details for me."
"I was happy to help. Mike and Lyndra were wonderful people." Mrs. Peters said, her eyes slightly shiny with tears. She gave a sigh. "I should go, there will be a lot of traffic back," She gave me a big hug. "You'll be just fine, sweetie. And you and Millie can stay in touch, all right?"
My eyes filled with tears. "Bye," I whispered. I wished I could have stayed with Millie and her family, they had always been like a second family to me. I watched sadly as Mrs. Peters drove away and then hugged my duffel bag to my chest as I followed my aunt into my apartment.
"I'm very sorry about your father's death, he was a wonderful man." Aunt Carol said as she led me to my new room. "He was a very good brother to me."
"I miss him," I sniffled. "And my mommy."
Aunt Carol pursed her lips. "Yes, well. It is very sad. But I will take care of you now." She went to the small desk that was next to the bed and picked up the small gift bag that had been sitting on it. "I have a present for you." She handed it to me.
"A present?" My jade green eyes brightened a little. I reached in and pulled out a necklace. I ran my fingers over the pendant. "It looks like the moon!" I said excitedly.
"It's a very unique necklace, Liana," Aunt Carol said sweetly. "It will protect you from harm. I got it special just for you. But you must never, ever take it off. Promise me? I don't want anything bad to happen to you too."
I slipped the necklace over my head. "I promise, Aunt Carol."

"Have you finished unpacking everything?" Aunt Carol asked, her eyes roving around the living room. The small house we had just moved into was slowly starting to come together. "Push out the coffee table a little more, and I want the books arranged on the shelf in alphabetical order. Fluff up the pillows on the sofa and then vacuum. I want the kitchen floor mopped as well." She gave a big sigh. "I need to rest, moving always takes a lot out of me."
