*Liana*
The end of the week came quickly and I was relieved that it was the weekend. I already had a lot of homework and a ton of reading to catch up on. My first week hadn't been too bad. I had Hanna as a friend and except for the dodgeball incident in P.E., I hadn't had any major mishaps. Well, except for when I slipped in the hallway on the way to class. Or when I dropped my book bag and everything fell out. There was also the time I walked into a pole...but overall nothing too bad. Monica and her friends had made a point to single me out and laugh at me but they were easily ignored since I was used to being laughed at and picked on in my past schools.
One thing I couldn't stop thinking about was that I hadn't talked to Zev again, although he had continued to sit next to me in English. I occasionally caught him looking at me in the hallways or the cafeteria, and okay, I only caught him looking at me because I was stealing looks at him. I sighed as I pulled the books I needed for the weekend out of my locker. As if he would be interested in me, I thought. I frowned. As if I would be interested in him. Just because he was gorgeous and had walked me to the nurse when I had been hurt...
"It looks like you have more homework than I do," Hanna said as she came up beside me.
I smiled ruefully. "I have to catch up to all of you. My weekend will be spent reading, reading and for some extra fun...more reading." I noticed Zev and his group standing across the hall and was determined not to embarrass myself by staring at him.
"That sounds...really depressing. I was hoping to show you around town this weekend," Hanna said. "I thought we could either go play some mini golf tomorrow or go to the club, Infinity, I was telling you about tomorrow night."
I shut my locker door. "Well, I suppose I will have to take a break sometime," I grinned. "The club sound kind of cool. I don't dance or anything but it would be fun to check it out."
"Yay!" Hanna clapped her hands together. "We'll go tomorrow night. I'll pick you up at seven-thirty, okay?" She checked her watch. "I better go. I promised my mom I would stop by the grocery store on the way home."
"Sounds good," I said. "I'll see you tomorrow!" I gave a wave as Hanna left and then hefted up my book bag with a groan. Ugh, it was heavy. Maybe I should have begged Hanna for a ride home. But I didn't want to be that annoying friend always asking for favors. As I made my way outside, I fiddled with my phone to play some music for my walk. I was already feeling winded and having upbeat music might help my walk go better. I passed through the parking lot and stepped off the curb, still focused on my phone when I heard a car horn blare loudly. I looked up, startled, and stared in horror at the cars that were swerving to miss hitting me. Suddenly I was grabbed and pulled back roughly.
"Are you out of your mind!?"
Shaking, I turned around and stared into Zev's startling blue eyes. Angry eyes that were glaring at me.
"Those cars almost hit you! Weren't you paying attention?" Zev scolded.
"No," I said honestly. I hadn't been paying attention and I should have. I didn't know why Zev was mad though, the drivers had a right to be mad but they hadn't even stopped.
"Well, you should have been!" Zev snapped.
I bristled slightly and took a step back, only to lose my footing and start to slip. I could feel myself blush bright red as Zev reached out and steadied me with an exasperated look on his face.
"Geez, you need a keeper." Zev muttered.
I re-adjusted my bookbag. "Listen, thank you for your assistance but save the commentary, all right?" I huffed.
