*Liana*
During lunch, I told Hanna about Zev talking to me, and asking if I had a boyfriend. Hanna looked beyond excited. "We only spoke for a short time," I told her. "It's no big deal," I added, knowing I was trying to convince myself. It was a big deal to me, I just didn't know what it was to him.
"Even just a few seconds is huge news when it involves Zev Hunter," Hanna informed her. "And this isn't the first he's talked to you. I mean, he danced with you at Infinity." She sighed dreamily.
I slowly smiled. "Yeah, that was nice. Really nice, actually." His strong arms around me had felt so...right. "I still don't understand him. Does he like me? Sometimes he's so great and other times he's more aloof." I mused out loud.
"He's a guy," Hanna shrugged as she finished her salad. "Guys aren't the best with emotions." She gathered her tray and stood up. "I have to meet my study partner for English. We have a project we were paired on. I'll talk to you later and we can discuss operation get Zev to ask you out." She said mischievously.
I laughed as Hanna grinned and left. I took out my sandwich that I had brought from home and took a bite. Suddenly I felt like someone was watching me and lifted my head to see Zev standing by my table. We stared at each other for a moment. "Are you just going to stand there and watch me eat?" I asked in exasperation. How was I supposed to eat with this gorgeous and confusing guy staring at me?
"Maybe," Zev said, tilting his head the side as he watched me.
I sighed and pulled out the other half of my roast beef sandwich. I glanced up. "Did you eat already? Do you want half of my sandwich? It's good, I made it myself. Unless you're a vegetarian. Are you?"
Zev's eyes became amused. "A vegetarian? No, that I am not." Sitting at my table, he accepted half the sandwich I held out and took a big bite. "Mmm, it is really good." He said appreciatively.
I couldn't help but smile at him as he wolfed down the sandwich. "Glad you like it." Over his shoulder I noticed his friends staring at us in shock. I frowned. Geez, was their clique really that exclusive that one of them couldn't even talk to someone outside their little group?
"Something wrong?" Zev asked as he reached over and grabbed my can of soda, taking a swig.
I tilted my head to the side. "Should I start bringing two lunches? One for me and one for you?" I asked teasingly.
Zev grinned a little sheepishly as he handed me my soda back. "Sorry. I get hungry a lot."
"I've noticed," I joked.
"So you didn't answer my question, is something wrong?"
I wasn't about to ask why his friends didn't look like they approved of him sitting with me. It wasn't really my business anyway. "Um, P.E. is next. Thankfully I only have to take it for the first semester."
"Ah yes," Zev leaned back and smirked. "That's a free period for me, I usually play basketball."
"I know," I rolled my eyes. Never mind that watching Zev play was distracting because he looked so good doing it, but then he was there to see me fumble whatever sport the teacher had us doing. "I just hope we don't get stuck playing dodgeball again." The P.E. teacher had been letting the students choose what they did and dodgeball appeared to be the favorite.
"You can play basketball with me instead," Zev offered.
"I don't think the other guys would want that," I laughed. I watched with some fascination as his face darkened.
"I didn't say anything about the other guys," Zev said, his voice deep. "Just me."
I dropped my gaze, feeling my face flush. "Trust me, I'm not good at basketball either." I slowly raised my eyes to his.
