anupamaa :

I stood before him, in bated breath.
He hadn't changed or even washed his face.
I shut the door behind me and locked it.

"Why are you here?", He asked.
His voice sounded numb, he cleared his throat.
"I am here to just clear things.. Yes, I knew everything. Yes, I did everything consciously.. because.."
"Because you felt pity on me?", He sounded spiteful,
"Oh poor Vanraj! Can't even cook for himself and his son! Let me help the poor thing! Am I right?!"

He was shouting, but I could notice nothing beyond his tears.
The sole part that made him human, was probably that.

"Toshu ke Papa..", I said finally, looking down, shutting my eyes.
My heart ached.
Had I lost the right to call him that?

"What?", He snapped.
"Why?", I asked, finally looking up.
"What why?!", He was shouting.

"Why do you keep lying?! Why do you keep pretending?! Why can't you accept you are in pain! Why can't you—"
"Who the hell are you to tell me?!", He shouted.
"I am the mother of your children!", I shouted back at him.

He fell silent abruptly.

"I am not lying.", He said, he sounded defeated.
My heart broke a little.

Despite everything, I still couldn't hate him enough.
I had tried very hard initially, but had finally accepted my defeat.

"Who are you..?", I asked, tired now,
"Are you the broken lover who cries in solitude in the park.. or the dominating husband who keeps his wife under his shoe..?"

I was asking helplessly now.

"I don't know.. I don't know Anupamaa..", he mumbled, the shell fell off yet again.
His anger subdued.

"I did everything possible to help you because I felt bad for you. I know you are torn between your own self.. the two personalities that you are trying to play..", I said,
"You treated me badly.. you said nasty things.. but I never stopped loving you.. because I know there's good in you.", I said, my voice felt numb.

I was saying things I had only dreamt of ever telling him.

"There's good in you.. I know it.. and that boy is dying inside you because you refuse to accept him with his flaws. You just want to be accepted by your mother, by the society.. but are you really happy?", I asked.

He looked up.

"Tell me who you truly are.. at least tell someone, at least accept yourself."

His eyes spoke, more than he ever did.

"You'll not love me if I told you.", He whispered.

"I've only loved the true you. If you don't tell me.. I'll just leave.. what else can I do?", I said helplessly.

"I want you to stay.", He said simply.

My heart lept.

He wanted me to stay.
