2: Surprise?

I first met Noah at Coachella and we became good friends since then. He is pretty cool with me being close to Beni. I don't know why Beni suddenly stopped replying to me, though. I don't think I did anything to upset him, or if he simply wants to ignore me.

The car stopped inside the driveway of Beni's home, and I was somewhat stunned. Compared to his home in L.A., the mansion is quite large.

"Are you sure I can just enter?" I asked Noah, and he nodded, so I followed him and entered Beni's house. I was careful not to touch anything, afraid that I might break something I couldn't afford to replace. The inside of the house is stunning, and everything looks quite posh.

I asked Noah because the house seems quiet, "Is he here?" Aside from us, I don't see any signs of other... living things.

His phone rang. "Maybe he's sleeping." he said before answering the call. I began looking around the room. There aren't a lot of decorations, but everything looks expensive so I refrained from touching anything carelessly and kept my hands to myself.

"Mia, could you check if he's upstairs? His room is the first door next to the stairs." He said before getting back to whomever he was talking to.

Okay. He's just letting me walk to his artist's bedroom. What if I come across something controversial and sell it to the press? Does he trust me that much? I didn't know I'm that trustworthy.

I flinched when I heard a loud thud as soon as I got upstairs. It came from the room belonging to Beni's. Did he perhaps fall off his bed? I walk up to the door, turn the handle, and push the door open. I felt a rush of excitement at the idea of surprising him. Oh, he will be so happy, right?

"Surpriaaaahhhh~!!!!" Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh! "I'm sorry!"

I assumed I would be the one to surprise him, but I was wrong. I immediately turned around. Oh my god! My eyes! "Continue." I left the room, shut the door, and went straight downstairs. What was that? Well, that was an unexpected sight to see. I can feel my face getting hot. 

I knew I should've knocked first. Dang it! Thankfully, I didn't see everything, because if I had, the scene would've stayed in my head for a week, at most a month.

I didn't see Noah when I got down. Is he outside? He did say he would wait for me and drive me back after I got to see Beni. Technically, I already saw him... in an awkward situation, so my goal is done. I walked towards the front door and grabbed the handle. I pushed the door slightly, but then...

Wait! Really, should I just leave now? Just like that? I mean, even though the free vacation was a major factor in my decision to travel here, Beni is still a part of it.  Should I wait? They won't continue doing what they were about to do, right? Unless they already did it before I barged in.

I heard footsteps as I debated whether or not to go. I turned around and saw the woman, who was now fully dressed. How did she changed so fast? Did they fight? Her face is all crumpled up. Is she upset? Oh no! I must have interrupted them. She looks, I guess, unsatisfied?

The woman walked past me and didn't even bother giving me a single glance before walking out of the door and slamming it. Now, I feel guilty.

Then I heard a second footstep, so I turned and saw Beni coming down from the stairs, also fully dressed this time. 

Awww, he looks so good without the hair. I wanted to take a picture, but he had a frown on his face, so I didn't.

How many weeks and months have passed since I last spoke with him and saw him? I would have greeted him with enthusiasm if he was all smiles, but he's frowning and giving me such a serious expression.

"Why are you here?" 

I got the sense from the tone of his voice that he doesn't want me here. "Surprise?" Honestly, I feel a little bit hurt. The excitement I had been feeling changed into anxiety. I guess I really interrupted him from doing his business, which is why he sounds like that. Like he wants me gone from his sight.

"Well, um... Noah told me to just go to your room. Sorry for interrupting. Your lady friend looks mad. Sorry about that." 

He rubs his face with his hand and sighs. "Are you mad because I interrupted you two? I'm sorry. I just wanted to surprise you and see how you're doing. I'm here on vacation with my cousin, and I wanted to see you before, you know, I go back. Noah actually drove me here, and he's waiting for me outside to drive me back." 

He doesn't seem happy to see me.

"I'm fine, as you can see. Is that all?" he asked. He's still frowning while looking at me. 

Ouch! Well, that was embarrassing. He really doesn't want me here. He is basically telling me to just leave if I don't have anything important to tell him. I just thought... I thought we're friends... Mia, what reaction did you expect from him?
