•Empty•After some time of sitting in silence, Chi're slowly started to drift to sleep, resting his head on my shoulder. Me on the other hand, I was silently freaking out. It's been hours and no one has come back. Eclipse had arrived, which was not a good sign, Neteyam told me they'll be in and out, Tsireya told me they'll get Kiri and come back to the village, but no one was here...
I tried not to think about it to much, I tried telling myself they're on their way back, I even tried going to sleep like Chi're, but whatever I did nothing would help. I was still over thinking, I was still worried, and I was still tired. I just didn't want anything to happen, I just wanted them all back i couldn't think about losing all of them in this stupid war.... I just wanted it to be over
I looked down at Chi're who was now resting on my legs and gently lifted his head to placed on the soft grass below us. Standing up, I stretched my body out from sitting for so long.
The eclipse was coming to an end, and light was beginning to shine down from the sky a little. I moved my hand in front of my face to block the light, squinting my eyes to adjust to it. As i looked at the water i noticed small figures coming towards the island, at first i was on high alert in case it was the sky people, but as the figures got closer i noticed they were Ilu and Skimwings.
I gasped happily seeing my people coming back, My heart rate calmed down now knowing my family and friends were okay. I turned on my heels squatting next Chi're to wake him up. I shook his arm calling his name, but he didn't budge. Annoyed by the heavy sleeping boy, I shook him harder, then got up and started to walk towards the pathway.
"come on Chi're, they're back!" i exclaimed excitedly turning around to see if he was following me, he rubbed his eyes as he stood up adjusting to the new light, he looked clueless as to what i was saying so i pointed out towards the water. "hurry!" I said to him before running off towards the shore, Chi're catching up behind me.
I could see families and children coming out of the emergency Marui's all making their way to the same place we were. As I got closer I stopped by a large tree placing a hand on it as I looked at all the people coming out of the water, looking exhausted. I noticed Lo'ak and Tsireya with each other, Lo'aks arm was wrapped over Tsireya as they walked up to shore. I smiled happy seeing my sister and Lo'ak safe and okay. Not noticing their sad expressions, I ran from behind the tree to go greet everyone.
I called out to my sister and looked around through the crowd as i ran closer trying to find only one person. I saw Jake and Neytiri with Tuk and Kiri by their side, Kiri comforting Tuk as she cried. Kiri and Neytiri both had tear stained cheeks. Looking back over at Tsireya, I gave her a look wondering where Neteyam was hoping she would understand and point him out for me, but the only thing she gave me was a sad frown. I tried not the think the worst, but i noticed Lo'ak's low face and upset expression. i shook my head and looking back over at Jake and Neytiri.
I tilted my head to the side with scrunched eyebrows, as i realized all of them looked upset... hurt, like something happened. i got a bad feeling in my stomach like something went wrong. i tried looking through everyone to see if i could find Neteyam but he was no where to be found. I turned my head back to Tsireya and Lo'ak.
Tsireya hesitated at first but after seeing the pleading look in my eyes she told me all i needed to know just by nodding her head sadly. I felt the ground below me open and swallow me whole. tears immediately filled my eyes. I kept looking around like i was gonna see him but in reality, i knew what Tsireya meant when she nodded her head.
As it finally set in I shook my head looking at my sister and Lo'ak, Tsireya hid her face in Lo'aks chest to avoid seeing my reaction.
"No—N-no" I shook my head as tears fell from my eyes quickly. from my peripheral vision I saw Ao'nung running up towards me and as I fell to my knees he grabbed me and held me in his arms as we landed in the warm sand. I screamed and cried hysterically as i thought about Neteyam being gone.
