Ch. 55 The Next Morning

After the phone call with Ratchet, Drift convinces Lily to take a bath. Drift checking on her frequently.
"... both should be waking up soon," Crosshairs concludes, telling Drift what Ratchet told him, "but Ratchet isn't sure if Lily should see Sunstreaker. She doesn't know that Sideswipe was affected."
"Unless he's in critical condition, letting Lily see him is a good idea."
Crosshairs texts Ratchet asking what Sunstreaker's conditioner is.
"He should be ok, but complications could still happen. He says we can bring Lily. Sunstreaker will be awake and, hopefully, keep her calm as he tells her."
"It's going to be a long three hours."
"Not like this is new to us."

Jolt monitors Sunstreaker as the sedation drugs wear off.
"Lily," Sunstreaker mumbles.
Jolt can tell that Sunstreaker is dreaming.
He needs to stay calm. Jolt worries.
"Lily is ok, Sunstreaker," Jolt tells him.

Sideswipe sits on the edge of the bed, listening to Ratchet tell him about Sunstreaker.
"... if complications don't arise, then he should be released by Tuesday. Full recovery should only take six weeks. How do you feel?"
"Fine, until he feels pain. Should I...?"
"It's wise to talk to him about that. I'll do my best to stay on top of his pain."
"Good thing Lily is on his mind. That should keep him from working out when he shouldn't be. Scrap, who's with her?!"

Sideswipe is relieved that Crosshairs and Drift are with Lily.  He sits by the bed, waiting for Sunstreaker to wake up. Texting Drift for updates about Lily as he waits an hour.
"Sideswipe?" Sunstreaker weakly says, staring at his twin brother.
"You'll be ok. Those soldiers have been arrested."
"Lily?"
"Who do you think she's with?" Sideswipe smiles, "good thing too. She's terrified."
Ratchet walks in to check on Sunstreaker and give him pain relief. He tells Sunstreaker that he'll let Lily visit after lunch and how he's uncertain if he should warn Lily that complications could arise while telling Sunstreaker what his recovery will be like if there're no complications.
Sideswipe is discharged from the medbay. He goes to Crosshairs' and Drift's room, hating seeing Lily laying on the bed with Drift, crying.

"It's been off and on for three hours," Crosshairs whispers, "she doesn't want to eat."
Sideswipe realizes he forgot to ask if he could tell Lily anything now.
It's going to be a long three hours. Sideswipe dreads.
Sideswipe isn't sure if he should be happy seeing Lily fell asleep. It's better for her, but she's sinking into a depressed state.
"She needs to see that he'll be ok, and if recovery goes well, she'll be ok," Drift explains, "any complication is going to be hell for her."
Sideswipe, how is she? Sunstreaker asks through the bond.
Asleep. Sideswipe tells Sunstreaker, leaving out Lily's poor mental state.
Sunstreaker knows Sideswipe isn't telling him everything, but he also knows Lily is frightened that he could be dead. He knows he's not ready to leave the medbay even for an hour.

Lily is still asleep at noon. Drift is questioning if having her wake up in the medbay will help, but he knows Sunstreaker is in an ICU room with only one bed, and laying her on Sunstreaker isn't an option yet.
"I don't want to wake her yet," Drift sighs.
Sideswipe tells Sunstreaker, and while Sunstreaker isn't happy to wait longer, he wants Lily to sleep but worries she's getting depressed.

Jasmine and Lighting check on Lily, hating how much Lily is struggling. Everyone hopes she'll do better once she sees Sunstreaker is doing ok and hopes complications don't happen.
"Unbelievable; when will scrap stop happening to these two?" Lightning sighs.
"Says the femme who didn't want these two to get together," Crosshairs comments.
"I still don't know if it's a good idea, but they love each other. It's weird seeing Sunstreaker care about a human. I know he will not change completely, but to see he's trying—."
Lily's crying interrupts the conversation.  The five friends hate seeing she's still asleep while crying.  The others watch Drift wake Lily up. She cries louder as she hugs Drift once she's awake.

It's a struggle to get Lily to calm down even as the five tell her Sunstreaker is awake and wants her to visit him. It's a long ten minutes before Lily stops crying. 
"Come on, Sunstreaker will not be happy hearing you haven't eaten today," Drift tells her.
"Or Ratchet," Jasmine adds.

Sideswipe brings Sunstreaker food, which allows him to talk to Sunstreaker.
"She's getting depressed," Sideswipe regrets saying, "she doesn't know about us being split spark twins, and I worry explaining will lead to other conversation that I think we need to wait until she's eighteen for, so... uh... I better block the bond when you feel pain, but only for an hour tops, I swear."
"Maybe when she's sixteen, but yeah, she will not understand why you're in pain. Can we really hold off that conversation for four years?"
"I don't know, but right now, she'll get that idea, you know? Which sure might be helpful, but it's breaking laws."
The gang walks into the room fifteen minutes later. Lily is already looking for a way to get on the bed. Sideswipe helps her get on the bed by Sunstreaker's non-injured side.
Seeing Sunstreaker's chest bandaged is frightening to Lily.
"I'll be fine," Sunstreaker assures her, "out of here by Tuesday, but no working out for a while."
"You have to tell her," Drift tells him.
No one wants to scare Lily more, but they tell her things could delay Sunstreaker's release date and recovery. Lily hugs Sunstreaker, causing a little pain, afraid things will worsen. Sunstreaker hates what Lily's been through. What was supposed to be a nice camping trip turned into a nightmare.

Lily has an appointment with Rung, Crosshairs, and Drift stay to talk to Sunstreaker. Knowing he does not like how the camping trip turned out.
"Unbelievable, I know she's terrified I was killed, but I worry she'll not want to be alone with me out of the base," Sunstreaker sighs.
"You have to talk to her about that," Drift tells him, "but I don't think she'll be afraid."
The three talk about another possible camping trip before Lily leaves before Crosshairs and Drift leave the room.
Unbelievable, It's lik e my sire is spying on me and doing everything possible to ensure Lily and I aren't together. Sunstreaker believes. When will we stop dealing with scrap? Sunstreaker questions.
