Memories

"I got stolen pictures of her. Puwede kong i-send para kay Lolo.

"My email is open. You can send it now. Kasama ko naman si Lolo."

Kumurap ako dahil sa liwanag ng screen. I readied the photos I gathered for the past few days. Mga nakaw na kuha ko kay Agustina Solera sa bawat lakad. These are pretty simple captures but I know how Lolo would react.

Ipinadala ko na kay Vior ang lahat ng litrato. Ilang sandali ring naghintay bago ko natanggap ang reaksyon ni Lolo.

I smiled on the screen when I saw how all of my expected emotions registered on my grandfather's face.

"Tulad pa rin siya ng dati," aniya habang abala pa sa litratong tinitingnan.

"As to what I can remember of her, yes, she is still Agustina Solera of your past."

Sinilip ni Vior ang litratong tinitingnan ni Lolo.

"Timeless beauty, indeed," he commented that I can just agree.

Nag-angat ng tingin sa akin ang kapatid ko.

"How did you know her before, Ate?"

I smacked my lips. "It's quite hard to tell but it just happened."

"How is she doing?" si Lolo matapos ng ilang sandali.

"She's fine. Maraming ginagawa sa buong araw pero kasama naman ako kaya nababantayan ko pa rin kahit paano. She is fond of making hand fans, Lolo."

Kumawala ang aliw at mahinang tawa ni Lolo.

"Laging ganyan ang ginagawa ni Agustina kahit noon pa."

"And you still remember?" si Vior na tingin ko'y may parehong reaksyon ni Aliegher.

Lolo looked at him, smiling.

"How can I forget? Minsan ko rin siyang minahal, Vior."

"And so you haven't moved on?"

"Is that it?" Lolo said without humor.

Gusto kong matawa sa reaksyon ng kapatid ko.

Lumunok si Vior at saglit na napaisip.

"You have to forget everything for you to move on. That's my stand on it. Getting over someone is impossible unless you forget."

"Getting over someone doesn't really require forgetting. You just have to loss the love and make a step moving forward," sabi ko.

Ngumiti si Lolo sa akin. He's getting my point.

"And continue walking forward until all you can do is to look back without aching at the pain," dagdag ni Lolo sa pinupunto ko.

Siyempre, natalo namin ang sentimento ni Vior!

We don't intend to weigh sentiments, though. Only that Lolo and I stood firmly with our perspective about moving on. And I uphold whatever he has told my brother. Kaya lang, sa huli, may kanya kanya pa rin kaming pinapaniwalaan.

Hindi ako gaanong naghanda para sa araw na 'to. Bibisita kami sa hotel dahil walang trabaho si Aliegher. Balita ko pa, nasa hotel din si Treti kaya magpapang-abot kami ro'n.

"It's hot," reklamo ko habang nagpupunas ng pawis sa noo.

Itinuloy ko ang pagdidilig ng halaman sa harap ng bahay. Flowers in the foyer started to falter at the scorching sun. Mas mainit ngayon kumpara sa mga nakalipas na araw. At dahil ngayon lang din ako nagtagal sa bahay, ngayon ko lang napagtuonan ng pansin ang mga bagay bagay.
