Everything seemed grey.

Looking at the stone in front of him, he probably read the name a thousand times already but for some reason it all seemed surreal.

Sheila Bennett

Beloved grandmother

This was the first time he came back since the funeral, but as he stood there and looking around, his thoughts wondered off, which resulted in the sky slowly darkening, clouds forming above blocking out he sunshine. That is until a voice came from behind him.

"Malik, we better go."

Blinking a few times, the boy returned to reality and looking at the men nodded silently and putting his hands in his pockets began walking towards him not noticing the sky began clearing up again. Silently walked to the car and purposely sitting in the back looked out the window, keeping his eyes on the houses and roads the town he ones called home did not have the same feeling.

"I know it's not ideal" spoke Rudy gently noticing his son's face in the mirror. "But with your grams gone I don't want your sister to be by herself."

"Yeah I got that" commented the boy quietly. "I'm guessing you'll be going off again?"

"Son, it's my job..."

"I heard that too" interrupted Malik.

"Your grams wanted you back sooner" admitted the man gently. "She kept bugging me about having you back, but I did not think it wise earlier."

He waited for a bit, but no answer came from his son. Checking in the mirror Malik kept his eyes on the outside, not even attempting to react to whatever he said.

Finally arriving to the house, they both got out, opening the trunk they got the suitcases out and walking into the house Malik immediately walked upstairs to his old room carrying his bags. Entering the room, he took everything in and slowly approaching the bed put his luggage on it while noticing how everything remained as it was when he left it.

"Your sister insisted on leaving everything untouched" came the voice of Rudy. "She said you don't like your things being touched."

"Oh Bonnie" sighed Malik with a smile. "She does have the annoying habit of knowing me too well. Even with us being apart for so long."

"I'll be going soon, have to meet with a client" continued Rudy. "Bonnie should be back soon, apparently there is a pageant event coming up. You could meet your old friends maybe..."

"Old friends" scoffed the boy and looking at Rudy shrugged. "Sure."

Once Rudy left Malik looked down and inspecting the beads bracelet wrapped around his arm. Gently running his fingers along it took a deep breath and began packing out. Once Rudy left the house, everything was quiet, but he did not mind it. He could stop worrying about his surrounding and focus on placing everything to their perfect place.
