Klaus disappeared from Mystic Falls to create more hybrids no doubt, Rebekah remained and Stefan was off the rails. When they got this news from Elena Malik decided it was time to work on himself, be more active. He and Elena made a joint decision that they were gonna take lessons from Alaric.
It wasn't easy but he got up really early and got ready before Alaric and Elena drove by to pick him up. The cold morning air was actually helping him wake up and be more alert, so when he got into the car he could actually have a conversation with Elena but it seemed the girl was avoiding all talks about Stefan.
They set everything up once they arrived to the spot, Alaric set up one of his mannequins and began explaining the two of them on how to stake a vampire with the sleeve and two stakes in it.
"The pressure of your punch ejects the stakes."
"Easy enough" commented Elena and tried to follow Alaric's instructions but as she hit it, the stakes remained in the sleeve.
"That's weird" spoke Elena looking at Malik but then she tried once more and yet again nothing happened. "Must be jammed or something."
"Malik, your turn" spoke Alaric without commenting on Elena just yet, the boy stood there and as he pushed the mannequin the stakes ejected into it.
"What...?" started Elena but Alaric interrupted.
"You're not strong enough. Better start lifting some weights" stated Alaric and walked to his bag, catching both of them off guard with his straightforwardness.
" Thanks for not sugar-coating it."
" You know what this is?" asked Alaric showing them the handmade grenade they've used before.
"A vervain grenade. I've used one before" stated Elena but Alaric just continued.
" Then you know the element of surprise is your only advantage when it comes to a vampire" he pulled the pin out of a grenade and threw it in Elena's hand. "Surprise."
"Oh my god" exclaimed the girl and threw it away, the grenade exploded making Elena turn to Alaric annoyed.
"This isn't a joke to me, Ric."
" You think I'm joking? Vampires will take whatever they want. They will hurt whoever they want. And they'll do it without remorse. It's their nature."
" You don't have to use pronouns. You can say Stefan."
" Look, I get why you're here. Stefan hurt you. You don't want it to happen again."
" But you think that I'm crazy to believe that I can protect myself from a vampire who flipped the switch on his humanity."
"I think you found a way to get out of bed this morning. And that makes you the strongest person I know."
"It's best if you start working on protecting yourself" commented Malik looking at the two of them. "Take my example, I'm a warlock, I can fight vampires easier than you do... but the last time Klaus was here he kidnapped me and neutralised my powers, I was unable to do anything."
