Klaus and Elijah sat opposite each other in the living room as both read their own book. Klaus was reading "A Poison Tree" by William Blake while Elijah was casually going through one of his mother's grimoires.

A dead girl laid on the coffee table, her neck bleeding from puncture wounds, completely ignored by the two original as they listened to classical music.

None of them spoke, however the quiet was interrupted when Rebekah and Malik walked into the living room.

"So, this is what you do the first time we're back together as a family? Vampire book club?" questioned Rebekah distastefully.

"Reading edifies the mind, sister. Isn't that right, Elijah?"

"Yes, that's quite right, Niklaus" agreed Elijah politely.

"And what's this business?" continued Rebekah and gestured to the dead girl on the table.

"This is a— "began Elijah and gestured as though he was searching for a word" – peace offering."

"I presumed, after so much time desiccating in a coffin, that my big brother might be a bit peckish" spoke Klaus after a sigh looking up at his brother.

"And I explained to my little brother that forgiveness cannot be bought. I'd simply prefer to see a change in behaviour that indicates contrition and personal growth" explained Elijah slightly annoyed, to which Klaus rolled his eyes guiltily, and Elijah gestured to the girl on the table. "Not this nonsense."

"Well, I couldn't very well let her go to waste, could I?"

"Then I suppose you lot can clean this up" stepped in Malik earning all of their attention. "May I remind you two knobheads that we have a pregnant werewolf in the building. The last thing she needs to smell is a dead girl on the coffee table. I don't care who does it, get rid of it!"

"Well, I suppose I'll go fetch the rubbish bin, because she's staining a two hundred-year-old carpet" commented Rebekah making her annoyance very clear to her brothers.

She left the room, while Klaus continued to read and Elijah looked up and following the blood dripping down from the girl's neck inspected the carpet.

"Ah, yes" commented the vampire casually.

"Malik, love... join me for a moment" said Klaus and held out a hand.

Seeing that Rebekah left the room to clear up the mess the warlock walked to the hybrid and placing his hand in his got pulled closer to him onto the arm of the armchair, he sat down and looking at what Klaus was reading . "Just listen to this for a moment, it is a wonderful piece of work..."

The warlock let out a sigh but getting comfortable leaned against the hybrid and looking at the book listened to Klaus read out of it.

"I was angry with my friend: I told my wrath, my wrath did end. I was angry with my foe: I told it not, my wrath did grow. And I watered it in fears, Night and morning with my tears; And I sunned it with smiles, and with soft deceitful wiles. And it grew both day and night, 'til it bore an apple bright. And my foe beheld it shine. And he knew that it was mine. And into my garden stole. When the night had veiled the pole; In the morning glad I see, My foe outstretched beneath the tree..."
