Your Mission

Your eyes fluttered open, squinting at the sunlight that beamed across your face the moment you opened them. You groaned, as you listened to Commander Erwin's loud and stern voice, echoing throughout the halls.

You couldn't help, but to feel weary from yesterday's training and it didn't help the fact that Levi made all of the scouts clean the mess hall from head to toe all night.

You were utterly tired, yet you had no other choice, but to get ready for today's mission. You stretched and headed to the shower and shorty after, you and all of the other scouts headed to the conference hall with your uniforms in tact.

Being apart of Levi's squad was quite intimidating. You couldn't quite figure out what made you so frantic every time his monotone voice spoke to you. You wondered if it was because of his iridescent eyes that felt impractical to read, his condescending attitude, or the way he carried himself.

Either way, you wondered what could've happened to him to make him so guarded from everyone around him. Though, you didn't fail to notice that Levi was a lot less harsh when it came to you.

You were always known to be the compassionate, soft, and fragile one out of every scout in Levi's squad. You seemed to always get injured, which is why you were always given the easiest job. You hated it and only wanted to improve your skills to be up to par with everyone else, but often failed at doing so.

You wondered if he treated you differently because you were softer than everyone else and that question always lingered in your mind.

Commander Erwin's mission for everyone today was to kill any roaming titans around the walls. Scouting days were becoming rare since you all had to travel to wall Maria, though for once, Commander allowed you to go with everyone else.

Until that one particular voice spoke, that sent an immense amount of tingles down your spine. Captain Levi walked in, holding a smug look on his face, as Commander Erwin informed him on what you all were told to do. Shortly after, you saw him scoff, glancing in your direction.

You and all of the other scouts on Levi's squad were lined up and remained silent upon dismissal.

"Well, you kids heard your orders. I better not see a damn titan in sight. I want all of them eliminated. If I see one roaming by the time you're all done, expect your next practice to be a living hell." Levi ordered, rigidly.

You watched, as he made his way down the line, scrutinizing each and every one of you. When he made his way to you, he hummed impatiently and narrowed his eyes. You felt uneasy, hoping he didn't notice your perceptible blush.

"Your job, Y/n, is to scout. Nothing more and nothing less, do I make myself clear?" Levi questioned, staring at you intensely until the words 'yes sir' spilled from your lips.

You looked down, avoiding any possible eye contact with the man, as he made you feel overly timid.

"Captain Levi, I was wondering if I am able to help on the front lines this go around? I think it will help me improve." You queried faintly, as you placed your slightly trembling hands behind your back.

You rarely spoke up for yourself, even if you did, it was only when you were speaking to Commander Erwin. It was your first time requesting something from Captain Levi, as you were always doing whatever he ordered you to do ever since you were assigned to be on his squad.

You noticed that he furrowed his eyebrows, "Improvement?" He scoffed, "You're weak and you always will be. Taking you on missions is like babysitting and you're not worth my time. My orders for you still stand. You're scouting." He ordered once again, but more sternly. His shoulder slightly brushed up against yours, giving you a whiff of his natural scent.

You felt dispirited, but you managed to hold your head high. You and the other scouts were dismissed and were told to head to the mess hall before starting the mission.

"Cheer up, Y/n. Captain is a prick. I'm sure one day you'll be able to complete missions with us." Sasha beamed, shoving food into her mouth.

"Besides, you're strong in your own ways. You're an amazing strategist." Armin spoke, smiling at you with his comforting smile and staring at you with his kind eyes.

"Sometimes I really do wish we were on Hange's squad, even though she's a nut job." Jean murmured, resting his head in the palm of his hand.

Your friends seemed to ease your overthinking, though you couldn't help but to feel as if you were the burden they always had to carry—the dead weight. Even if they were to say otherwise, that feeling forever pursued you.

"His attitude is real big, coming from someone so short." Eren spoke, shaking his head.

You lowered your eyes and silently ate your food, as everyone else rambled on about the mission. Their voices faded out like white noise, as Levi's words echoed throughout your brain. The way he spoke to you, made you feel like you were useless and not important enough. His words were like venom to you. It would take a lot for you to feel any resentment towards anyone, but you felt it with Levi and you wanted nothing more than to prove him wrong.

Even if that meant disobeying his orders.
