A couple of tedious weeks had passed and your leg seemingly healed fully. Even though you were still on punishment, you were fortunate enough to be able to leave your room from time to time. You stuck to your word and only spoke to Levi when necessary.

You often left mess hall earlier upon seeing him and you did all of your tasks rather early too, so you didn't have to hear his obnoxious gravelly voice. However, since your leg was fully healed, you had to do one on one training with him some point in time—which you were utterly dreading.

Fall had finally started and you were out by the stables, raking leaves and cleaning horse shit. You despised the smell of horse shit, but the reciprocity for that was being able to enjoy the scenery of autumn.

You fancied how ethereal autumn was—how the crunchy amber leaves embedded the ground—the sound of the decaying trees dancing in the wind and how the sky was so blue, you could drown in it—all while the sun remained luminous.

Your lips slowly curled into a smile and your hair blustered in the wind, as you raked the dead leaves into small piles. You had always thought autumn was blissful, as it reminded you that there was sometimes beauty in death.

"Y/n!" You heard Mikasa's sweet voice shout from afar.

"What's up?" You faced her, discerning how sweaty her face was.

She grinned, "Need some help?" She queried, picking up an extra rake that were perched by the stables.

"Much appreciated. Aren't you suppose to be running laps though?" You questioned, hoping she wouldn't get chastised for skipping out.

She rolled her eyes, "Levi isn't around for some odd reason and besides, I miss you too much to not come and hang out with you before you're sent back into the dungeon." She stated, jumping into a small leaf pile I made, scattering the leaves all over again.

You chuckled, as you watched Mikasa's smile grow on her adoring face. Mikasa wasn't always like this, though. She had always remained silent and kept to herself, until she met you. The way your heart cared for her—even when you barely knew her, made her feel cherished. She was confined in darkness, until she found the light in you.

She clinged onto you after you opened up your arms to her, thus her telling you the reason she was so insulated from everyone was because her parents were murdered—shortly after she had joined the cadet corps.

Your heart twinged for her and ever since then, you stuck by her side and promised her you'd always take care of her and that ensued in the two of you becoming inseparable.

"Are you kidding me?" You smiled, "I just raked those leaves." You shook your head, jumping into the tousled pile next to her.

Mikasa turned her head to face you, her coruscating stormy-grey eyes gazed into yours, as she held a cordial grin on her face. She softly grabbed your hand, intertwining your fingers with hers.

"Do you remember the day we first met?" Mikasa queried, smiling to herself.

"Yeah, of course. You were so quiet and even when you did speak, you were so brash!" You spoke, a pinkish tint spreading across your cheeks and the bridge of your nose.

"I was, but you never stopped being so—so solicitous. It was such a new feeling to me, but you opened up so many doors for me." She replied, faintly laughing. You noticed that her eyes were glossy from the tears that were forming, but she swiftly wiped them away with the scarf she always wore.

Your eyes broadened, as you pulled her into your embrace, "Mikasa. I will always be here for you—I'll always care for you, okay? No matter what." You reassured, as you dug your head into her neck.
