"Well, well, well...." Penny asked frantically as Lola walked up to her desk about an hour later and 10 minutes after Penny had.
"Ugh. Whhaaaat?" she groaned throwing her head on her desk for a second. "But at least I have another idea for today..." she said lifting her head up grabbing her laptop. "I'm going to head home...well..after I talked to Denise, but to finish this thing that just hit me."
"Yeah. That sounds good. I can't wait to read it." Penny smiled.
Lola walked home looking at her phone hoping the text messages from Brno would magically disappear and she could easily answer her consciousness by just taking Cody back. Lola stopped at a stop light she looked at her phone. I don't want to be a bitch...he likes me. I like him...
I hope you're having a good day. Today has been verry busy for me.
She continued to her home laying her things on a cluttered table, grabbing some tea and putting on her headphones. She buried herself in what she was thinking completely oblivious to her roommates arriving home and settling in for the night. She was knocked out of her bliss by several text message alerts.
"Girrrl! Answer your damn text messages!" Bianca yelled running to grab her phone unlocking it. "How the hell? What the fuck? How did this happen? I cannot deal with your loud sex and his five year old slightly autistic son!"
"We aren't back together. I haven't even said yes!" she said grabbing her phone reading the text. "I guess you mean yes since you haven't answered me. 'So I'll come get you Friday night.' No! What fuck? He is crazy." she said standing up grabbing her shoes to go outside. "Cody! What are you thinking?" she yelled into the phone. "No. No. I was on the fence until that last text but no. I'm sorry." she told him calming down a little bit.
"Are you done, Lola?" he asked her.
"Yeah. I'm done." she answered. "But, Cody. I am talking to someone else right now. I've moved on."
"Oh." he answered a bit shocked.
"It's been like four months..." he interuppted her.
"You're the last person I've been with..." he told her.
"How is that supposed to make me feel?" she asked him. "Guilty? Because it doesn't." she paused realizing she was being rather mean. "Cody...." she [a[used again. "I'm just...like I'm sorry I just kind of dropped you after I said we could still be friends. I just had so many things going on. I was starting those new contracts and ending the others and I just think I'm in a good place now. You didn't hold me down or back or anything. You made things fun and exciting....but on your terms." she told him very sternly. "It was always what you wanted and I wanted to do other things. And all you wanted to do was sit in your apartment and watch Jayden watch other kids play video games while drinking a twelve pack of Heineken. It just wasn't my idea of fun. And you said you didn't want kids. I want kids."
"Was that the deal breaker? If you want kids I will come over right now..." he told her.
"No. Come on, Cody. That wasn't it." she told him.
"I just miss everything..." he told her sadly.
"I know you do. And I'm sorry." she told him listening to him talk about how he was afraid of commitment and actually being in a relationship. She talked him through making small changes and asked him to text her when he finally found someone he wanted to date so she could help him get through it. She sighed heavily heading back inside flopping on the couch.
"That was a longer conversation than you thought, huh?" Madelyn asked.
"I'm done with him." Lola told her roomates. "Bring on Brunnnoooo Marrrsss!' she sang dramatically.
"If you didn't choose him...." Lacie said. "What did he say today?"
"Not a lot." she said looking at the few texts they had exchanged ending on him talking about his flight back to Los Angeles. "But it seems so just normal to be talking to him....we talk for a while and then fade and then it was like nothing even happened because it just picked up...." she told them.
They continued to talk and had their normal evening together watching crappy Netflix and going to bed getting ready for work; Lola planning on working from home, Madelyn going back to the inner city school she was teaching at, Bianca to the Financial District and Lacie to the Human Resources department at large clothing company.
Lola stretched out on her bed holding her phone in the air waiting for Bruno to text her back. A few minutes into her wait she started thinking. What the fuck am I doing? How have I become this attached so fucking fast? Like we've just got out two times....
**
While Lola was laying in her bed Bruno's phone sat by his hand while he worked on a new song. He was lost an obsessed in the same way that Lola was earlier in the day. Not even comparing the two situations he glanced over at his phone texting her to see how her story went.
I was obsessed.
I know the feeling.
Like I had no idea what was going on. The girls came home, they ate dinner and went to spin and I was just there....
I'm sure it's an amazing article.
You'll just have to wait and read it later on. :) (insert emoji)
"Yo...who you talking to?" someone asked Bruno.
"Lola Mallman. Have you heard of her?" he wondered.
"I bet my sister knows. Well wait..google her..." his friend said starting to search. "Oh..yeah. I think I've heard of her. She's kind of all over the place, huh?"
"Yeah. She is. I like her." Bruno said with a smile.
"Like 'like' her?" he asked. "Or just like her?"
Bruno held up the air quotes and answered. "Like her."
"Well then dude, go for it. But I don't know...she might want to write about you."
"What do you mean?" Bruno asked.
"My sister reads her and talks about her. She writes about her relationships. Like she's like Carrie Bradshaw but for real."
"Yeah?" Bruno asked. "I don't know if I like that...."
"Well is she worth trying to talk to about it or will you just kind of fade away?" his friend asked him.
"God. I don't even know." he said seeing her text.
I'm going to bed. Good night!
Sweet dreams, Lola.
He texted quickly. "I'll ask her about it tomorrow."
