I STOOD NEXT TO THE LIVELY WOMAN WAITING FOR THE PERSON SHE WAS LOOKING FOR. "You're going to love living with Jessie! She's such a sweet woman." She said. I swallowed nervously and played with my fingers. Coming here was already nerve wracking enough. I stood there as I smoothed my hair back and tried to make myself look presentable.

"Don't be nervous." I quietly said to myself. I saw a blonde woman who looked like she was in her late twenties/early thirties. Her blonde hair illuminated in the sun as her blue eyes sparkled like the ocean on a moonlit night. She wore a red flannel with a white, embroidered tank top. Her bottom half was just black jeans and cute combat boots.

"Hi!" She said in a cheery tone. Oh geez.

"Jessie I would like you to meet Miss Quinn. She just came here today so she will need a place to stay." I gave her a small toothy grin and she smiled.

"Nice to meet you Quinn." She said as she held out her rough hand. I was hesitant to take her hand but I did so in a gentle way. She gave me a look of understanding and I eased up.

"You're in a safe place now and you don't have to worry anymore." She held out her hand for me to take and I did so. She began to walk as I caught up to her. She reminded me of daisies, so fragrant but run wild. She brought me to one of the houses in the community and it was... big.

"Welcome to my home." She said. I looked at the door and took a deep breath. I opened the door and I saw what I've always wanted when I was a child. The granite countertops and white walls that weren't covered in dirt or blood. A faucet that ran with clean water, and stairs that didn't just lead to the roof but more rooms.

"I know this isn't much but it's home." She said.

"It's beautiful." I said. She perked up once I spoke.

"She talks." She said with a laugh.

"I-I guess I haven't really talked that much since I haven't really interacted with anyone for 3 years, it takes getting used to." I said. She went to the fridge and grabbed an apple.

"You hungry?" She asked. My stomach grumbled at the sight of food.

"Hungry is an understatement." I said. She tossed the apple to me and I took a bite. The sweet juices hit my tastebuds and it felt like I was eating a gourmet meal.

"This is so good." I said as I chewed the apple. She laughed and smiled.

"Well I'm glad you like it but there are better things than just apples."

"Oh I know, but after not eating for a long while, everything becomes more and more flavorful. Like a factory reset." I said as I took one last bite out the apple before I threw it in the trash. I heard small footsteps come down the stairs. There are others?

"Mom, do you think you could make-" The little boy stopped dead in his tracks and slowly looked up.

"Mommy? Who is this?" I stood there in shock.

"I didn't know you had a kid." I said as I got to his level.

"Hi, I'm Quinn." I stuck my hand out and he shook it like a maniac driving on a freeway.

"I'm Sam!" He said with a upbeat to his voice. The only thought rolling through my head was that he is so innocent for this world.

"Kids." I heard Jessie say.

"Sorry?" I said, hoping she would repeat.

"I have kids." She says. Another pair of footsteps came down the stair, but the steps were more heavy and kind of dragged out.

"Why are you guys yelling down here?" The boy said as he straightened out his shirt. He looked up and made eye contacted with me. His dusty brown hair in his face as freckles decorated his like constellations.

"Hi." He said, he adjusted his posture and made himself more presentable.

"Hi. Um I'm Quinn." I said as I held out my hand to him. He shook it unsure of what was going on.

"Mom, why is she here?" He asked. She?

"Well, she's going to be staying with us." A nervous smile appeared on her face.

"Oh okay." He ushered me to come upstairs. I did it willingly so. We went up the stairs and the creeks of the floorboard gave me deja vu. I went down the hall and found a room with another girl in it.

"Oh hey Enid. This is Quinn. She's going to stay with us." He said as he smiled. I gave her a small waved. She looked over to me with a blank expression.

"Hi." She said softly. Her stare was deadly. I shook it off and I saw a tv with a game setup.

"You guys can play games?" I said. Ron nodded. I saw another boy and sighed.

"Gosh, how many kids does your mom have." I said. He gave me a weird look. Did I say something wrong?

"It's just me and Sam. Enid is a friend of mine as of Mikey." Mikey got up and came close to me.

"Hey, I'm Mikey." His black hair was in his face and he blew it to the side.

"I'm Quinn." I said. He shook my hand.

"You wanna play some video games?" He said.

"Depends, what do you have?" I asked. He pulled out SSB.

"Hell yeah." I said. I sat down next to him and began to play. I felt a pair of eyes on the back of my head. I turned my head around and Enid looked away. I shook it off and continued playing.
