I WALKED UPSTAIRS TO SEE WHAT THE DAMAGE WAS. Walkers roamed all around the community, eating any bodies that were still lying around. I swallowed and walked away from the window. I walked out of my room and saw Deanna laying in the other spare room, bleeding out. I ran over to her and came to her aid.
"Deanna..." I said as I grabbed her hand.
"Hey, I haven't seen your pretty face in a while." She said. I smiled as tears rolled down my cheeks.
"You shouldn't be in this position," I said as I squeezed her cold hand.
"At least I got to do what I always wanted to do. I've done everything." She said. I smiled and got up.
"At least you got to live your life to the fullest," I said. She smiled and I went towards Sam's room. I knocked on his door and opened it. Sam was just sitting on his bed, not saying anything, nor doing anything.
"Sam?" I said as I sat on his bed.
"The monsters are going to get me." He said. I got closer to him and held him.
"They're not going to get you, I promise." I hugged him close to me as he sat there emotionless.
"Do you think we'll survive?" He asked.
"I don't think so, I know so," I said as I tried to make him smile. Nothing. I got up and stood by his door.
"I know you're scared Sam, but you've gotta be brave. Be brave like Ron is." I said. I left his room and walked back downstairs. I stopped midway and went back up, looking for Judith. I got to one of the rooms and saw her in her crib, crying. I grabbed her and bounced her lightly.
"Shh it's okay, you're okay," I said as I brought her out of her room. I walked down to where Deanna was and brought Judith to her.
"I thought maybe you would like to see her one last time," I said as I held the baby towards her. She gently took the baby and held her. A smile appeared on her face as Judith cooed. She began to cough and I took the baby from her.
"I think my time is almost up." She said.
"Just try to push through it as much as you can," I said as my voice broke. She smiled and got up.
"Deanna you should stay down," I said. She tried to stay standing but eventually began to fall. I came close to her and helped her get back on the bed.
"I-I thought I could stay up..." She said. I gave her a sad smile.
"And you did for a moment, but it's time," I said. I stepped away towards the door and smiled.
"I hope you see Reg again," I said. She smiled and sighed. She looked at me and smiled.
