“Noona?”
Your gaze dropped from where Namjoon disappeared to find Jungkook’s doe eyes staring up at you as though you put the stars in the sky, his chocolate iris dancing with the fire’s light while it continued to crackle in the brightly lit fireplace. He smiled that grin that wrinkles his nose and creases his eyes before the slight sensation of his wiggling ears against your palms reminded you that you were covering his rabbit ears.
Your fingers combed through his hair, brushing it completely back from his forehead before you found the courage to ask, “what’d you hear bunbun?”
He pointed to a freshly pierced humanoid ear with the hand that loosely gripped the bauble between three fingers and a thumb then chuckled an endearing sound you could lose yourself in; warm like a hug and welcoming with each gentle contraction of his diaphragm. Mentally you could have smacked yourself for forgetting his second set of ears but his reaction at least calmed your anxiety over protecting him from the toxic dialogue Namjoon was spewing.
Perhaps JK really had begun to grow and not just in muscle mass, you mused, your chest swelling with pride.
“He’s going to let what you said sink in,” Kook murmured, pushing his head into the palms of your hands. When you’d got the hint after the third head bump, you went back to combing his hair, the bunny giving a content sigh in return.
“You think?” You asked as you cast one last glance in the direction Joon left as though the lion might walk back through the door at any given second.
“I’unno.” You caught JK’s cheeky side grin just in time before it disappeared and his eyes closed, thoroughly enjoying your head rubs.
You pouted, lightly popping him on the forehead with your finger. “Kookie!~ Don’t be mean,” you whined while he squirmed to get away.
“What?~” He teased just before his laughter died and his head snapped up in alert, making your heart plummet in alarm.
“What’s wrong?” You swallowed your panic and followed his gaze, body stiffening in preparation.
Your nerves came crashing down in a wave of relief as you found the glass bobble resting in his lap. It had come detached from the cap with all of Jungkook’s playing, but thankfully it was an easy fix. Granted, that still didn’t make you feel much better. At least, not until the ornament was safely in your possession, so you gingerly plucked it from his grasp before he could refuse. Brushing his protests aside and popping the golden cap back on before you held it in the air just out of reach from his grabby hands.
“You're not getting it back. I told you if you actually break it, they might charge—” Shrill laughter cut you off as one of your cousins and her husband drunkenly staggered in. You instantly bristled, recognizing the sleaze who had punched Jungkook the last time you saw the scumbag. He looked pretty much the same—albeit, more drunk and wet from the showers—but thankfully, Jungkook wasn’t the same as back then. In fact, Jungkook hardly looked bothered as he curiously cocked his head at the noisy couple.
