Dan POV
I woke to a knock on my door. I glanced at the clock next to me, which read 5:08. I grunted and rubbed the sleep from my eyes, then rose out of bed. I walked to the door and swung it open, which revealed a very excited looking Caspar."Good morning sleepy," he said sarcastically.
"Yeah, what do you want?" I grumbled.
"We caught the vampire," he said happily. My mind was still foggy from sleep, so it took me a second to register what he said.
"The vampire from last night?" I asked.
"No, the vampire you went to prom with," he said, giving me a look. "Yes the vampire from last night. It's the same guy, but he's with a different girl this time."
I scratched my head softly. So he was a player? And a heterosexual player too.
"Put your shoes on, I'll take you down there to show you," he said, almost giggling with glee. I cracked the door, and went to slip my shoes on, but stopped when I saw my reflection in the mirror.
My hair was a matted mess, flying in all different directions. My eyes had noticeable bags underneath them, showing that I just woke from a nap. I had dried drool running down my chin, making me look like a toddler who just spit up.
I ran into the bathroom and washed my face, trying to erase my nap. I tried to raise both my arms to fix my hair, but the pain in my shoulder stopped me. While it was much better now, it still hurt way to much to be moving it freely. I lifted my good arm and ran my fingers through my only half-straight hair now, then rushed out to put my shoes on. I was greeted by a still giddy Caspar standing by my bed.
"Did you have to fix yourself up for the vampire?" Caspar asked, curiosity alight in his eyes. I rolled mine, and slipped my shoes on quickly. I guess I did kind of fix myself for him, but I wasn't going to let Caspar or the vampire know.
We walked out and down to the holding cells where we keep all the detainees. My heart raced, but I couldn't figure out why. Maybe it was because I could finally yell at the stupid vampire for pissing me off. Or maybe it was because I could make him feel pity for hurting me. Well, who am I kidding, vampires can't feel pity, can they?
Of course not. If they felt pity, they wouldn't have killed my parents.
"The other group hasn't returned yet, but they're hoping to get here soon with at least a couple of vampires," Caspar said as he turned the key in the lock of the heavy metal door. "I'm gonna let you go in by yourself, okay? They're behind bars, he can't hurt you again," Caspar whispered, and I nodded. What was the worst that could happen?
I walked in, and closed the door behind me, listening to the lock click. I walked down toward the cells, swallowing any hesitation. I made it about three cells down when I noticed the first vampire.
She was laying out on the small cot in the cell, her hair sprawled around her head. She was asleep, but I could still see the puffiness of her eyes, telling me that she was crying. I stopped in my tracks; a vampire can cry? I didn't even know they had emotions, let alone ones that make them cry. She was very pretty and dainty looking, and she seemed almost harmless.
Of course she's not harmless, Dan. Don't fool yourself.
I shook off those thoughts and took a deep breath, then walked to the stall next to the dainty vampires. No matter how much I prepared myself, I wasn't ready for the vampire I saw.
He was laying on his back, eyes staring up at nothing. His eyes were slightly puffy too, and his hair was a mess on his forehead. His hands were placed on his stomach, fidgeting with the handcuffs that were still around his wrists.
