Phil POV:
I woke up to the sound of a soft snore. I looked up and saw a sleeping boy sitting right outside of my cell. I rubbed my eyes and groaned softly, trying to rid the sleep from my body. I looked back at him and couldn't help but stare. His hair was curly and resting on his forehead; his mouth was open slightly; his cheek was pressed against his arm in a way that made the corner of his eye crinkle. He was, for lack of a better word, cute.

"Dan," I said softly, standing up and stretching my stuff back. He stirred but didn't move. "Dan," I said louder, walking over and kicking the door to my cell loudly. He shot up and looked wildly around, his eyes huge. "Calm down, it's me," I said, yawning. He looked up at me and, once realization hit, he looked tremendously calmer. He sighed and rubbed his eyes aggressively.

"Did I fall asleep?" Dan slurred.

"Well I'm assuming you did," I said sarcastically. Dan rolled his eyes and placed his head down on a book lying on the floor.

"What's that?" I asked, pointing to the book. Dan looked at where my finger was pointed then sat up, grabbing the book up.

"Nothing," he said quickly. I raised an eyebrow at him, and he sighed. "It's a log I'm supposed to keep of you two. Actually, I need to record what you're doing."

He flipped open the book and started to write. I watched him, but couldn't see exactly what he was writing.

He finished writing, and checked over his work. Then he looked up at me with a quizzical expression.

"What?" I asked, becoming modest.

"Nothing, it's just... Nothing," he said, closing the book. I eyes him suspiciously, but he wasn't looking at me, he was looking at Zoe.

"Hello Dan," I heard Zoe's sleepy voice. "Phil, are you up too?"

"Mmhmm, because Dan woke me up," I said, remembering why I was awake in the first place.

"What? How on earth-" Dan started, but I cut him off.

"Because you were snoring," I said, probably sounding more angry then I actually felt. Dan blushed furiously and looked away. Zoe giggled in the next cell over. "What?" I asked her.

"Oh, nothing," she said, still giggling. I scowled, but didn't continue to push the subject.

"Well, I'm going to back to sleep, now that Dan is done snoring," I commented, and went back to my cot.

"'Kay," Zoe said, and I lied down against the cot. I closed my eyes but sleep didn't come. I just stared at my closed eyelids for what felt like forever. I was just about to open my eyes when I heard Zoe whisper, "do you think Phil is asleep?"

I kept my eyes shut, waiting for Dan to answer. "Looks like it," he finally said.

"Good, because I need to talk to you," Zoe said, a forceful undertone in her voice.

"M-me?" Dan stuttered, and I could practically see the face he made: his eyes big, his mouth open slightly. He was really predictable.

"Yes you," Zoe said. I heard footsteps coming from her side of the wall. "What's up with you?"

"What's up with me? I don't know what you mean," Dan said defensively, his voice rising.

"Why do you hate Phil so much?" She asked, and I had to force myself to not smile. Even when I was asleep, she was defending me. That's a true friend.

"I-I'm not sure I understand," Dan said, and Zoe laughed.

"I'm going to try and be as simple as I can: why do you hate Phil?" She said slowly, as if she was talking to a baby.
