Claire helped me hobble out to the courtyard after she splinted my leg. God what I wouldn't give for a Senzu bean right now. We made it outside a bit before lunch so everyone was still in class.
"Here'll be f-fine," I told Claire. She let me stand on my own in the center of the yard, where I looked up to the windows. Gohan would blast me through a mountain if he sees this. I took a deep breath and closed my eyes. I let just enough power out to allow flight, and slowly I lifted into the air. I opened my eyes and looked over to Claire who was watching in disbelief.
"W-wow. Celton, you're actually flying!" Claire exclaimed. I flew around in a circle for a minute with a few flips and spins to sort of show off. I flew around and stopped in front of Claire while still in the air.
"You're amazing," she said, with stars in her eyes. I looked down to my hand and thought about my own courage to even show this limited scope of my abilities to her. This is such a bad idea... I held out my hand to Claire, who was surprised by my offer.
"Take my hand," I said to her. Claire hesitated for a moment before her resolve made her take my hand confidently. I pulled her up to me and held her in a loose hug as I floated back up. Claire looked down to the ground for a moment as we flew in a circle over the courtyard. I locked eyes with her for a moment and once again my heart began pounding. But this time it felt different. It wasn't a nervous pounding, but a hopeful one. You know what, I don't care if Gohan sees me.
"Are you ready Claire?" I asked, much more confident than normal. She looked up to me with a smile and a tilted head.
"Ready for what?" She asked. I carefully tightened my hold on her, pulling her closer to me.
"Hang on tight," I said with a smile, before taking us far up into the sky. Claire laughed and exclaimed with sounds of fear and excitement as she clung to my jacket. I leveled out our flight and started flying far above the city at a fairly comfortable speed. Claire clung tightly to my jacket as she looked down to the far away ground, and I could see that she was sort of afraid behind her wonder. I inverted my flight so that my back was to the ground and Claire could be upright. Claire slowly sat up and looked around her and laughed a bit before yelling to the sky in excitement. She's amazing...
"This is incredible!" She exclaimed. She looked down to me with such a wide smile on her face. "You're incredible Celton." I looked down below us for a moment as we passed across Mount Paozu, and in the distance I could see Gohan's house. When I turned back to see Claire, everything felt so slow. I couldn't keep my eyes off of Claire, as the onset of the sunset gave her hair a glow that I would never forget. Claire and I had our eyes locked as she laid her head on my chest and closed her eyes. This is so peaceful. What have I been afraid of? My heart skipped a beat I think, and Claire opened her eyes to look into mine. I don't know why I've been so worried. I don't care about anything else except this moment anymore.
"Clai—" I started, before I was swiftly silenced. Claire's lips connected with mine, her hands resting on my cheeks as she kissed me. I couldn't resist this feeling and this taste, and I quickly returned the kiss as the wind flew through our hair. We relished in this moment as the orange sunset glowed around us. We finally broke our kiss, but it's feeling was burning though my body even now. It was getting late now, and so I turned us back towards her house. Claire laid against my chest the rest of the flight, and soon we were landing at her doorstep. I set her down gently, before gently landing and trying to balance on a single foot.
"Celton... I don't know what else to say... but thank you," Claire said.
"I'm kind of relieved I was able to show you that," I said. Claire smiled and gave me a hug that I returned tightly.
"I'm glad you let me see that side of you," she said. My secret would be safe with her... I'm sure of it now. I turned to walk out of her yard, but stumbled a little on the way. Claire quickly came over and helped me back to my feet, holding me up in her arms.
"Maybe you should stay here. At least for the night," Claire offered.
"Wouldn't your parents mind?" I asked her. She looked away for a moment, as though she had something she didn't want to tell me. Guess I'm not the only one with a secret.
"They're out of town, it's not a concern," Claire said. I wasn't sure if I could even go back to Gohan's after what had happened, and to be honest my leg was still killing me. I relented on leaving, and Claire helped me into her home.
