I'll Never Get This...

The homecoming dance was just a few days away. I felt like I was going to go crazy with everything I had to do to prepare. The tuxedo was the easiest thing to get, since we just had to find one that fit. The ride to the dance, that was Gohan. But the thing driving me utterly nuts was learning to dance. Chi Chi was in charge of helping me get that down.
"Alright Goten, start it again," Chi Chi told her son. The young half-Saiyan pushed a button on a radio and a song began to play again. I let out a deep breath before taking Chi Chi's hands again. Our movements were janky it seemed like every other step, we stepped on each other. I went to step back as Chi Chi went forward, but I didn't move back enough and ended up falling on my back after she stepped on my foot.
"Are you alright dear?" Chi Chi said before helping me up.
"Yeah, let's try again," I said for what felt like the hundredth time. Goten started the music again, and Chi Chi and I resumed trying to teach me. A few steps in and Chi Chi's foot struck mine again, right as my other foot came down to hers. While she was able to recover and stay upright, I ended up twisting to the ground.
"Dammit! I'm never gonna get this in time!" I groaned. Chi Chi sighed and helped me back up, and dusted my shirt off for me.
"I expected Saiyans could master anything quickly with how Goku and Gohan learned what they know," Chi Chi said endearingly. I groaned out loud as I sat on a chair that Chi Chi had for when she was watching Gohan and I train.
"How is this so hard?!" I exclaimed.
"Because you're treating it like a dance," I heard Gohan say. My friend came outside to check on us and now apparently had some kind of wisdom to impart to me.
"Isn't that the point?" I said. Gohan shook his head as he came over to us.
"You're not a dancer Celton, you're a fighter," Gohan said.
"I am well aware of that," I said, trying to understand what he was getting at.
"You're trying to react to my mother's moves, something you haven't done extensively," Gohan said. I stood back up and crossed my arms waiting for him to continue. "While reacting is what other people do when they dance, you need to anticipate where my mother's feet will be, like you're predicting your opponent's next attack." I gave his statement some more thought, the movement is easy for me to detect if I take his advice, just less aggressive.
"If you think that can help me, then it's worth a shot," I said. Chi Chi and I stood together again, and I closed my eyes. Using an old training technique, I listened to the music play and focused on the movement of the air around Chi Chi to detect her movements. Her right foot stepped forward, and I was able to move my body and foot in sync with her. The left foot, the right, a turning back-step.I opened my eyes as I sort of identified a pattern in Chi Chi's movements, and I took charge to keep that pattern going. Chi Chi laughed slightly as she was now following my lead in the dance. Left foot, right foot, turning back-step, and then I added a spin for Chi Chi.
"Looks like that worked," Gohan said. Chi Chi and I stopped and I threw my fist in the air in celebration.
"I finally did it!" I exclaimed. Chi Chi clapped her hands and smiled as the music stopped.
"Oh Celton! Your mother would be so proud of you!" Chi Chi cheered. I stopped for a second as my mind went back to that time so long ago, seeing that red screen dividing me from my mother and father. The view of that detonating planet as the Saiyan pod screamed its way towards Earth. Chi Chi and Gohan could clearly see I was lost in my own head now, and Chi Chi, instantly changed her tune.
"Celton, I'm sorry for bringing up your parents," she tried to apologize. I looked over to her and smiled to let her know she hadn't done something wrong.
"It's fine Chi Chi. Remembering that day hurts, but their lives were avenged by Goku on Namek, and Trunks here on Earth," I said. "They're at peace now, and I've got nothing more to do than to live for them, as they wanted me to." Chi Chi came over and hugged me, as if still apologizing. I embraced her as well, before I stepped back and held a hand to her.
"Let's get back to practicing. I wanna perfect this before the dance," I said, determined to make this dance the best I can for Claire.
