...A Night To Remember...

I was lost in my mind as I tried to meditate. My nerves felt like they would burst at any moment.
"Celton," Gohan said to me. I opened my eyes to see Gohan looking at me in his rear view mirror. "You alright?"
"Yeah, just trying not to get anxious," I said. Tonight was the homecoming dance, and as far as I was concerned, everything was on the line here. I had to make this night the best one ever for Claire.

I stood in the bathroom as Videl and Erasa worked on my makeup and hair while we waited on Gohan and Celton to come pick us up.
"I really hope Celton likes this dress," I mumbled.
"You need to stop worrying about that. Celton is going with you because you're you, not because of some dress," Videl said. I took a deep breath, just as I heard a knock on the door.
"Erasa, go occupy them while I finish this up," Videl said.

Gohan and I stood at the door as a blonde girl opened it for us. She was one of Videl's friends, I think her name was Erasa?
"Well aren't you boys handsome," she said. "Come in for a bit, Videl and Claire will join us shortly." We walked in and sat down as Erasa went to check up on Videl and Claire. I let out an uneasy breath and again tried to meditate to calm myself. Gohan set his hand on my shoulder which gave him my attention.
"You've got nothing to worry about. Just focus on her," Gohan told me. I smiled a little, and then turned to look down the hall as Erasa walked back out to us.
"Alright you two," she grabbed our attention with. Videl walked into view first and Gohan stood up to talk to her. As the two walked out towards the car, I heard a single footstep. I turned back to the hall and my heart stopped for a moment. Claire held a hand to her nape and slightly looked away from me as she stood in her dark teal dress.
"What do you think?" She asked me, gaining her own confidence it seemed.
"W-w-wow," I tried to say, but it came out broken and anxious.
"Been a long time since I've heard that stutter," Claire smiled with a slight giggle. I stood up and held her hand, and my heart pounded like a jackhammer. Claire looked up to my eyes and we just held that stare for a moment.
"You're so beautiful Claire," I finally said. Claire blushed for a moment, but then started dragging this dumbstruck Saiyan out the door. I gladly followed.

Celton and I got in the backseat of Gohan's car, and off we were to the school dance. The ride was quiet, aside from Gohan and Videl talking amongst themselves. Though, I didn't pay attention to them, as Celton's leg was bouncing rapidly next to mine. He's still the nervous boy that ran into me in the hall. I scooted closer to him and caught his attention.
"Nervous?" I asked him. His eyes shot open and he looked over at me.
"Yeah, it's the most social thing we've done," Celton said. I rested my head on his shoulder to help him out.
"But we're doing it together," I reassured him. The car stopped just out front of the school, where the welcoming crowd was waiting to greet people as they came in.
"We'll let you guys out here and join you after we park," Gohan said. Celton was focused on all the people who were currently looking towards the car, and I could see him tense up. I held his hand and used my other to make him look at me.
"Don't worry about them. Just focus on me," I said to him. I leaned over and left a kiss on his cheek for encouragement. Celton gave me a smile, and then opened the door to the car.

I opened the door and stepped out of Gohan's car. I instantly felt everyone's eyes on me, and they felt like daggers. I did my best to hide my anxiety and turned back to help Claire out of the car. We walked arm in arm towards the entrance to the school and the whole time I could hear everyone murmuring about us. The words they said were all of praise and shock, the girls loved the way Claire  looked in her dress, and the guys were all talking about how lucky I was. The door was opened for us, and we walked into the dance. Music was already playing, but this music was not something that I could dance to at all.
"Picture booth over here for all couples!" Announced an all too preppy girl. Claire dragged me over towards the booth and practically shoved me in its confines.
"Didn't think you'd want to do something like this," I said.
"Of course, save the memory forever, right?" She said. We sat down on the bench and the booth quickly snapped the first photo.
"Now let me sit in your lap," Claire said. With no objections I let her sit down across my legs with her arms around my shoulders. The second picture snapped. I thought for a moment about what the third picture should be, and soon I decided to leave a little kiss on her cheek. The third picture snapped at the same time. Claire looked over to me with her devious little smirk before she kissed me right on the lips, right as the fourth picture was taken. It wouldn't take a genius to tell you I was blushing afterwards, but I had mostly cleared it up by time we left with the printed pictures in hand. At least I hope it had cleared up.

After we left the picture booth, a hip hop song started playing over at the dance floor, and it was one of my favorites.
"Come on Celton!" I exclaimed and dragged him along with me. I let go just before we reached the dance floor and threw my arms up in the air to dance. I swung around my shoulders and hips to the beat of the music, just having fun. I opened my eyes to see Celton dumbstruck and blushing at the edge of the dance floor. I walked back over to him and took his hands to pull him over to me, seeing he was nervous.
"It's alright, just follow my lead," I told him. Celton gulped a little, and then nodded slightly

As Claire started dancing again I took careful notice of how she was moving. She'd slowed herself down a little and from there I could form a pattern of movement in my head. After a second to watch, I started to follow her example. Rolling shoulders and alternating steps sided to side. Just treat it like a fight. It was perfect, we danced in sync all the way through the second verse of the song. When the chorus came back again Claire went right back to her more active dance, with arms raised and hips swaying to the beat. I didn't change my rhythm at all and was simply mesmerized by Claire. The way she danced was just... her. She didn't care about what anyone thought, she just danced. She's perfect. The smile she had as she sang to every word was like a choir that drowned out every other noise. Is this really happening? The hip hop song ended and Claire stopped dancing slowly. Her hair had fallen out of its short ponytail, and fell back into her natural messy look. My heart was pounding in my chest, and I could barely breathe. What is she doing to me? Is this...? As the next song came on, a much slower one than the last, I took my shot to make her night.

The next song began as I caught my breath from the last one, and I heard Celton clear his throat a little. I turned back to see that boy extending his hand to me.
"C-c-care to dance?" He asked me. I felt a flutter in my chest a little, and then took his hand.
"There's that stutter again," I said to him as the lyrics to the song began. "I'd love to, but I'm not good at slow dancing." I stepped forward and Celton set my hand on his side and then grabbed the other and smiled.
"Then I won't let you fall," he said to me. I think I already have. I followed Celton's lead, locked onto his golden eyes. With every step we took my heart pounded. He's got me lost in those damn eyes. What's happening to me? The music was dull in my ears as I zoned out, completely at Celton's whim. He slowly spun me in a circle as he stepped around me. am I...? Is this...?

...Love...?

The song reached its final verse, and in a poetic moment, Celton and I kissed under one of the bright lights. His lips felt like heaven and almost like they had some kind of energy behind them. I must be dreaming since I felt a light breeze move past me and Celton, with him at its epicenter. I could've sworn my hair had flown up, but there's just no way. The night continued and that feeling seemed to never leave me. Through every song and every dance, It felt like I could never be safer and cared for.
"Celton!" We heard Gohan call out. Celton and I looked over to the other side of the floor and saw Gohan and Videl waving to us as they walked out the door. Looks like we were on our own to get home, but I don't mind at all.
"Thank you for tonight Celton," I mumbled as I rested my head on his chest. I yawned a little bit as he swayed back and forth with me.
"We should get you home," Celton whispered in my ear. I nodded slightly as I tried to keep my eyes open. Dancing was a lot more exhausting than I expected. Celton took me by the hand and laced his arm under mine, like all the gentlemen in those rom-com movies I've watched. He lead me out of the school, and started walking me back home.
"It's dark enough, want me to fly so we can get you home sooner?" Celton asked me.
"Not tonight," I drowsily said. I looked over to the other side of the street and saw the alleyway I used to go down to get to school. "Go that way, it'll be faster." Celton turned us down the alley...

And I've never been more wrong in my life...
