"I look like Cinderella," I groaned. Today I was at a dress shop with Videl and her friend Erasa, and hating my life as I tried on different dresses they brought me alongside their own. I stood in front of a mirror in a dress with so many frills, you could've mistaken me for a bush. It was way too puffy and about the only thing it did was match the teal highlights in my hair.
"Is that such a bad thing?" Erasa asked.
"Yes! I'm not some princess to take to a ball!" I exclaimed.
"Oh lighten up, you spend all your time being rough and tough. Why not be delicate for a day?" Proposed Erasa, who's opinion I'm about to start disregarding.
"Can't I just go in my normal clothes?" I asked Videl.
"What kind of girl goes to a dance looking like the cover of a rock band?" Videl rhetorically asked.
"Me!" I answered. Videl looked back at me with a dumb look as I fiddled with this stupid dress.
"Here's this one," Videl said, disregarding my previous statement and handing me a bright yellow dress to change into. I went into the changing room and put on this second dress which was drastically different from the last one. It was very slim and went down to my knees, but the yellow was just too bright, I turned and spun a little and the dress generated enough lift that I could've flown by myself.
"This one's just... just no," I shook my head. Erasa walked out of her changing room in a very short blue dress and handed me a deep red dress.
"Oh yellow will never be your color. Try this on instead," Erasa said. Videl walked away for a moment as I went and changed into this red dress instead. The dress was pretty tight, and when I walked out in front of the mirror, I could definitely see why a guy would like this dress.
"Jeez, it hardly covers my chest," I said as I stared into my own cleavage. When I turned around, I could see that the skirt barely even covered my backside. Any bending forward would completely expose that area, and I was not having that. Videl walked up in a new dress and handed me a dark teal dress.
"Absolutely not," Videl said. "Here, I think this one will work for you," I sighed and took this new dress into the room, worried that I wouldn't find something that Celton would like.I looked over to Erasa as I stood in front of the mirror.
"Dressing Claire like a slut isn't going to do her any favors going to a dance with Celton," I told her.
"Oh come on, I've dated anxious boys before! All I needed to do was give them a little ass and some chest and I cured that anxiety," Erasa boasted. I sat down to try on a pair of heels while Erasa checked herself out in the mirror.
"Celton isn't like that. He's not just some boy you can hypnotize with a bit of skin," I explained. "He's a lot more down to Earth." Erasa rolled her eyes and stepped away from the mirror.
"Claire! Come on out and let us see it!" Erasa called out.I opened the door with a bashful demeanor, worried about how I would look. Videl and Erasa's jaws hit the floor as I stepped out.
"It's horrible, isn't it?" I asked them. Videl held up a finger and twirled it. I guess she wants me to turn around? I turned and caught sight of myself in the mirror, and then I had the same dumbstruck look on my face that they did. The dark teal dress was slim, but still had some slight structure. A single, inch-wide strap went from my right side over my left shoulder, and my chest was covered very respectfully. The skirt flowed in all the right ways as I moved, reaching down to my ankle on the left side, and down to about mid-thigh on my right side in a feather shape.
"Oh my god it's so—!" Videl exclaimed.
"Me," I finished. It was modest, and yet it made a statement in the way it comfortably hugged my body.
"I guarantee Celton is gonna love this dress," Videl said.
"He better, because I like this dress," I said, a little surprised with myself. We got changed back into our clothes and got everything squared away with the dresses. With a swipe of Videl's card, everything was ours and we left the shop. As we rode in Erasa's car, I was daydreaming about the dance to come with Celton. I closed my eyes and just felt the wind as I was lost in thought. I wish you could've seen me dad.
