"Bye!" I squeal back to my friends, my voice all high-pitched and giggly. I yelp as I trip over a lifted part of the sidewalk, trying to desperately regain my balance. My eyelids are heavy and my body feels all loose as liquid courage flows through my veins and cannabis through my lungs. I take the last drag from the roach of a joint before dropping it and smothering it with my foot.
My attention is pulled away from the dying sparks on the ground at the sound of someone calling my name. I turn and almost bump right into a very handsome man who happens to be a lawyer. "Oh hi Matty," I grin up at him despite the fact that he can't see me.
"Matty?" He questions with a chuckle, adjusting his iconic red glasses. "Are you perhaps intoxicated right now?"
"Whaat? No," I lie straight through my teeth as I try to stand taller. "I should be uh, getting home," I go to take a step but trip, falling right into Matt who catches me. "Sorry,"
"Let me help you get home," He offers, linking my arm with his.
"Shouldn't I be helping you get home?" I hiccup with a chuckle before realizing what I'd just said. "I'm so sorry. That was so ru--"
"Don't worry about it sweetheart, that's not the worst I've heard," He chuckles as we continue walking, finally making it to my small apartment building. I fumble with my keys for a good 50 or so seconds before opening the front door of the building. It's days like these that I'm grateful for living on the first floor.
By the time I get to my front door, I'm heavily disappointed with the wave of sobriety washes over me. I huff annoyed but what did I expect, even supernatural drugs would lose their effect at some point. Plus, a vigilante doesn't need to be intoxicated anyway. "This is me," I turn to Matt who's staring off into space. Would you like to come in for a bit?"
"Sure. Sounds like you've sobered up a bit,"
"Yeah," I chuckle falsely as I open the door. "Can't stay drunk and high while being a super being now can you," I mumble to myself as Matt walks into the apartment. I lead him over to the couch, helping him sit down. "I'm just gonna get changed, I'll be right back," He nods and I walk off to my room, taking my heels off as I go. I shimmy out of my skin-tight dress before throwing a large shirt on. I leave my hair alone, not wanting to disrupt the gorgeous look I have going on. I grab a makeup wipe and quickly rub it over my face, mediocrely taking off my makeup.
Once I'm finished I walk back into the living room. I realize that yes I don't have pants on but it's fine cause Matt can't see me anyway. "Do you want something to drink?" I question as I walk over to the kitchen.
"Um sure that would be nice," I smile at his words before grabbing two glasses and pouring some of my favourite red into them. I walk back over and carefully plop down onto the couch next to him.
"Here you are sir," I hand him his drink before sipping mine, leaning my head on the back of the couch as I simply stare at him. He's quite attractive to be honest. But he's my friend and I'm pretty sure he has a girlfriend or something. Karen I think her name is. I think she works with him, I can't remember right now.
"I can feel you staring," He says with a smirk before sipping his wine. "What's on your mind?"
"You," I say honestly.
"Oh really?" He questions with a smirk. "What about me?"
"About how I'm disappointed you have a girlfriend," I mutter while looking down at my cup.
"Who says I have a girlfriend?" My head shoots up to look at him.
"Oh," That's the only thing I can say as I process the new information. I really shouldn't get my hopes up cause that doesn't mean he likes me ya know.
