(In this Au Mario and Luigi always lived in the mushroom kingdom instead of coming from a normal big city. Mario and luigi are around 8 in this story)

"Come on, Luigi, let's-a-go". It was a cool, fall afternoon. Mario was on top of a medium sized rock wearing a big oversized sweater with black mushroom shaped buttons over his blue turtleneck. He wore a white and red fuzzy hat to warm his head. The two brothers were in the mushroom kingdoms forest which was filled with big piles of leaves and large logs and bushes to hide in. The perfect place for adventure.

However, you can't really go on a life-risking adventure in the terrifying forest if your stuck at the entrance of the forest.

Luigi was at the forest's entrance wearing a matching green oversized sweater over his blue sweater. However, he was a bit more prepared for the weather wearing red and white gloves, a green and white scarf, and white fuzzy ear muffs. He trembled, both out of fear and from the cold.

Mario waited a little for Luigi gain some courage and come into the forest but it never happened. Mario sighed, slightly frustrated. He jumped off his rock to go over to Luigi.

"Come on, Luigi" Mario grabbed Luigi's arm and tried to drag him into the forest "I thought you said you weren't afraid of the forest".

"I-I'm not" Luigi struggled, Luigi felt himself getting dragged into the forest and in an act of desperation pulled hard, hoping to get out of Mario's grasps, instead making the both of them lose balance and fall on the ground.

Mario and luigi laid down, dazed for a moment, before shaking their dizziness off. Mario glared at Luigi causing Luigi to let out a nervous chuckle.

"Sorry Mario, I didn't mean to hurt you. I-It's just that..." Luigi put his head down in shame.

Mario, seeing his little brother's distress, softened up a bit, feeling a tad guilty for what he did.

"Hey, you know I'll be in there with you, and we've been in this forest ever since we discovered it in the summer so you know we have nothing to worry about."

"I know, but it's not because of the forest... at least mostly, it's..." Luigi trailed off "Forget it you'll think it's stupid anyways".

"No I won't, you should know I'll help my brother out with anything, no matter how stupid it may be, now go on and tell me"!

Luigi hesitated, before looking back at his big brother and taking a deep breath. "We'll the reason I won't go in the forest-" Luigi looked behind Mario and suddenly had a frightened look on his face, he pointed to the area. "-is because of THAT!"

Mario looked at the spot Luigi had pointed to. "Y-Your afraid of... the leaves?" He didn't mean to sound so judgy but being scared of leaves? It just sounded ridiculous. He looked over at Luigi who had stooped looking at him, maybe out of embarrassment? Mario stood up tall, he had said that he would help Luigi no matter what, and if that meant helping conquer Luigi's fear of leaves then that was what he was going to do.

"Luigi, your way more stonger then the leaves. All you have to do is, um, step on them!"

"Step on them?"

"Yeah like this". Mario ran over to the forest entranced and gave a big leap in the air before falling down on his feet and giving the dry leaves a big CRUNCH.

Mario turned around to his brother. "See, it's fun. Come on Luigi"

Luigi didn't get up at first but stood up after a minute. He walked over to Mario but got slower as he neared the forest's entrance.

He looked down, a sea of pointy, brown leaves that almost looked like long scrawny hands with sharp nails just waiting to grab onto him and send him down into the dark abyss where they lived.

"Luigi". Luigi looked up to see his older brothers warm smiling face. He had his arm out, motioning him to take it.

It was so easy. So, SO easy to run, Run away from the forest, the terrifying leaves, all his fears, but he knew that if he ran away now there might not be another chance where he would be willing to crush his fear again. He would forever be afraid, forever cower in the corner, forever be the same old Luigi.

No

No. He wouldn't let that happen, not for a second. If Mario was with him, he knew he would be safe. Luigi took a deep breath, closed his eyes, took Mario's hand and finally stepped inside the forest.

*Crunch*

Luigi stiffened a bit but after a while he finally loosened up. He was okay, he wasn't hurt, he was still here. The boy in red next to him celebrated.

"Woohoo! Luigi you did it bro!" Mario said, now taking both of his brother's hands and jumping up and down like a kangaroo.

Luigi smiled at his hyperactive brother. He took another step in to the forest, then another, then another. Soon he wasn't even hold Mario's hands anymore and he was eventually jumping on the leaves and laughing.

Mario and Luigi then spent the whole day making leaf piles and crashing into them. They went up trees, climbed hills, and said hello to neighboring animals. That day was a fun day but also a day that Luigi would cherish forever. The day Luigi learned about bravery amd how he cam push through anything if he put his mind to it.

First story done, hooray! Thanks for reading my lil oneshot. This story was based on my own experience with being afraid of leaves. My mother would always tell me to step on the leaves so I could concur my fear and stuff. Man i was probably a very difficult child to take out during fall lmao. Anyways, thank you again! Have a good day.
