Fresh air (Captain Toad? and Toadette)

(Slight warning: This story takes place in the Mario movie universe. There won't be big spoilers for the movie, In fact, everything mentioned in this story you should have seen in the trailers but I feel like I should legally put this here so that nobody can get mad at me lol)

(Ever wonder how Captain Toad and the Toad Brigade started? Well this is the backstory. Aka: I'm showing the Mario Movie writers a way to introduce Toadette while also transforming Toad into Captain Toad)

"So you're going back to adventuring?"

It had been 3 months since Toad had helped Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and Donkey kong defeat Bowser. During those 3 months, the other Toads had given him nothing but praise. However, while saying that Toad didn't love the appreciation would be a lie, Toad missed traveling around the world and meeting new people and finding new creatures. He missed sailing on boats and gliding through the sky. He had traveled so much that home didn't feel like home anymore.

"I have to, Buckenberry! Traveling is in my blood" Toad said as he got some coins from the coin dispenser.

"Wow, you're crazy, Red, but the good type of crazy" Toad didn't know if he should take that statement as an insult or a compliment. "But, I mean, don't you ever fell lonely during your adventures?"

"Lonely?"

"Yeah" Buckenberry grabbed some coins out of the coin despenser too. "Nobody goes with you on your trips. You're gone for days, maybe weeks, by yourself. Don't you think it would be better to stay here with your friends?"

Toad sighed, he knew what Buckenberry was doing. Despite being extremely loyal, toads weren't exactly known for being the bravest of subjects. They usually didn't put themselves in dangerous situations unless it was absolutly necessary and it was obvious that Buckenberry was just concerned for his well being.

Though, now that he mentioned it, it would be nice if he had a partner to travel around with. It wasn't like anybody would go with him though, so he had no choice but to go alone. It was an unfortunate sacrifice he had to make if he wanted to persue his hobby.

Toad shrugged his shoulders "It's not that big of a deal. I'll be safe I promise"

Buckenberry looked long and hard at his friend before laughed at himself "Your right Red. You've done this plenty of times before, i don't know why I'm so worried" Buckenberry started to walk home "Welp I better get going, my sister's might get worried if I wait any longer. Take pictures okay"

Toad chuckled "Will do"

Toad bounced off the last mushroom before landing on his feet on solid ground. He spun around to look at the breathtaking view of the mushroom kingdom. Toad took in the smells of the mushroom forest. The smell of the grass, the river, the mushrooms! Yes it was good to be back.

Toad took out his map and rolled it open. Where would he go? Sarasaland? Yoshi's island? Maybe he would go to the Cap kingdom, he hadn't been there in a while.

Just then he heard a lond frustrated groan. Was somebody here? No thats impossible! The normal residents of the mushroom kingdom never came to this part of the kingdom. Toad closed his map and stuffed it inside his bag. It couldn't hurt to investigate.

Toad walked around the forest. He could hear a girl grumbling nearby but no one was in the premises. That's when Toad decided to look up and found a pink and white toad girl with pigtails sitting on a mushroom. A fellow toad who was also adventuring, he didn't see that everyday.
