(Luigi was ready for anything when he went into the haunted mansion, but he wasn't prepared for a surprise piano lesson)
...
Luigi shook violently as he opened the door to one of the mansions many rooms. It was very dark and cold, like every room in the building but he didn't see any ghost inside. Feeling a bit brave he decided to step in and investigate. He turned his flashlight on.
Inside he found multiple instruments lying around. He went up to a harp and plucked one of the strings. The harp was conveniently in tune. Luigi soon played a song that Mario and him used to hum while they were working in New Donk city. However, when Luigi stopped pulling the strings on the harp, the music did not stop with him. It was almost as if they were replaying a recording of the song. Luigi was a little weirded out but for the most part he was okay. He had seen weirder things in this building.
Luigi looked at the other instruments and wondered if they also had the same effect. He played the bongos, the xylophone, and even the cello until all the instruments came together to make a beautiful rendition of the nostalgic song. Luigi looked back, proud of the one man concert he had made for himself.
That is until he heard an instrument he hadn't even touched before playing the same song. Luigi turned around a full 180 to reveal a ghost was playing along with the music. She looked like many of the other ghost but also different in some ways. Although she was dead, he bright golden hair looked smooth and shiny. She also wore a modest maroon dress. She certainly was one of the more better looking ghosts in the mansion.
When the song finally stopped playing, Luigi gave her a round of applause. The ghost girl bowed down as if she was playing a big audience. "Thank you for listening. I haven't had an audience member like you in a while. The other ghost would rather haunt people or do other nonsense then witness true talent"
"That was amazing" Luigi praised. "But I'm kind of shocked. I didn't think you would know that song because it originated from the place I was born and haven't been on the radio since my brother and I were very young. It's an old song you know" Luigi laughed, as he contemplated what he had just said. Its really has been a while since he even thought about that song.
The ghost, however, did not have the same reaction as Luigi and her face soon soured. "Are you calling me old?! I'll have you know that I'm only 26!" The ghost started to leave.
"Uh- WAIT- I wasn't saying you were old! I was just saying that you have excellent music tastes. You're also really talented. I wish I could have the talent you have" Luigi panicked trying to make the ghost lady stay, if she left he could not progress on his mission and he would never save his brother.
The ghost girl stopped and turned around with a smirk. "Nice save" She said as she floated back down. "You don't know how to play the piano?"
Luigi shook his head.
"But you know how to play literally every other instrument?"
Luigi nodded his head.
The ghost huffed "Well I guess your long over due for a lesson" she scouted over and patted an empty spot on the bench. Luigi stood for a second but came towards her anyways. "By the way, my name is Melody"
"Oh. My name is Luigi"
"I know" Melody said "The other ghosts have told me plenty about you"
Luigi shifted his feet awkwardly "I'm guessing they didn't have good reviews" Luigi laughed nervously.
"Not the best but I think your way better then what they frame you as" Melody shrugged. Luigi smiled, taking the compliment well. "Besides they deserved to get trapped in a vacuum, they were pretty nasty people" Melody frowned.
Luigi took notice of her sudden shift in attitude but Melody changed the subject before he could say anything. "Now back to the task at hand. First you have to sit up straight, no slouching, see like this" Melody demonstrated and Luigi copied her stance.
"Very good" she clapped "And you should also position your hands like this. You shouldn't be pressing the keys with one finger"
She then taught him the piano key letters and how to read a music sheet. Soon enough he could play simple songs like hot cross buns and twinkle twinkle little stars.
When Luigi finished playing the latter song he looked over to Melody to see how he did and found her smiling proudly.
"You look real happy about me doing the bare minimum" Luigi joked.
Melody's face flushed with embarrassment, realizing just how stupid she must have looked. "Sorry, it's just that I have a huge passion for music and the piano and to see someone who is willing to share it with me just makes me happy"
Luigi smiled "Well I'm happy to have an amazing teacher like you"
"Ugh stop your making me blush" Melody's face was now all red "Plus your the amazing and stuff. I'm pretty sure this isn't the best situation to be in but your still putting up with everything to save your brother. Your strong Luigi. Way stronger then me"
Luigi rubbed the back of his head bashfully "Ah gee, I wasn't expecting so much flattery. Thank you" Luigi sighed "Speaking of my brother, I better get going. He unfortunately isn't going to save himself"
Melody frowned, disappointed that they had to go different ways but she nodded in understanding. She pulled out a key. "I believe you'll need this"
Luigi took the key, thankfully "Thanks Melody, till we meet again" Luigi started to walk out the room.
"Till we meet again, and Luigi..." Luigi looked towards her "Kick king boo's but for me"
Luigi nodded "Will do"
