~ Jisung ~
Sam turned to me with a blankly mad face. I couldn't tell if he was going to go off on me or not.
"You're the fucking reason for this. Happy?"His hands were still balled into fists by his side.
"What? You literally fucking punched Ayen. What the fuck?!"
"Because you keep fucking acting like a fag and clinging to me. Stop fucking touching me!"
"Stop acting like you hate us so much! Why are you so fucking destructive of everything that's good for you?! I'm just being a friend! Why can't you do the same?!?"
"I don't want to be your friend. You're fucking annoying! I never wanted you to follow me around in the first place! I wanted you to fucking leave me alone." He stormed towards the front door and only realized it's his house when his hand reached the knob.
"Fucking leave. And don't come back. And don't follow me home. And don't text me. And don't call me. And don't talk to me. I never wanted you around. Maybe I'll finally get some space!"
I stood still with a gaping mouth. "You don't mean it. You don't want me to leave. You just need to cool down for a while. Then you'll be fine. Come on. Sit down." I motioned to the couch.
"LEAVE MY FUCKING HOUSE JISUNG! FUCKING GET OUT!" He rushed towards me and ripped me from where I was and out the front door.
I put my hands out to stop it from closing and caught his hands in the process. I wrapped my hands around his and looked pleadingly into his eyes. "Sam."
He wrenched himself away. "You fucking fag." He slammed the door in my face and I flinched so hard that I stumbled down a step or two of his porch.
This can't be real. He hurt Jeongin. He hates me.
This can't be real.
He'll regret it tomorrow.
——
I saw Jeongin cradling himself in the far corner of the school courtyard and headed right over. Sam was nowhere to be seen.
"Hey, Jeong. You okay?" He had a small pink bruise on his jaw. I set my arm on his shoulder and ruffled his hair.
"I'm alright. Are.. you okay? I shouldn't have left you when he was mad." He scanned my body with concern. I smiled at him and wrapped him into a side hug.
"I'm fine."
"What happened after, though? Did he say anything to you?"
"Just.. He said some things but they don't mean anything. He was just mad so he'll be fine in a day or two. Just wait. He'll come back and act like nothing happened." I looked around to find where he may be.
"What if he doesn't? What if he's just done? I mean, why should we even let him have the chance to come back? He punched me, Jisung. He.. can't control himself. Maybe he needs to be alone so he doesn't hurt anyone else."
The words made sense but I still winced. Give up on Sam? But.. It's Sam. He's my best friend.
"Let's just not think about it for now. Let it pass." He looped his arm through mine and guided us to the school doors to start off the school day.
——
The whole day passed without a single interaction with Sam. I passed him in the hallways twice but he just continued on with the same slightly pissed but nonchalant face. I genuinely don't think he saw me.
It technically has only been half the day, but it might as well be over because I want to be home and it feels like time is passing in slow-motion. All I can really think about is if Sam is serious. If he really hates me. If I'm actually just an annoyance to him. If we're over. For good.
I had to pause my thoughts when Jeongin sat in front of me at lunch. He dug into his meal without a word to me. After finishing the plate and finally breathing, he looked at me skeptically.
"Are you not going to get food?"
I hadn't even realized I skipped that step. I guess I just sat. I shrugged. "Don't feel like eating."
He sighed and set his fork down that I could tell he wanted nothing more than to scrape the crumbs into his mouth with. "Don't let him affect you. Eat. Pretend nothing happened. If he's not thinking of us, why waste time thinking of him?"
I wasn't surprised he read my mind. I bet he could know what someone is thinking simply by their breathing patterns. "It hurts." I sounded pathetic, my voice even cracking a bit. Tears formed in my eyes and I started crying right there at lunch.
"I.. It hurts. We never fought like this. I just thought he was kidding when he always said he doesn't like us. I.. Three entire years that he literally never cared. And I did." I dropped my head into my arms that rested on the table. Today has been so mentally exhausting.
Jeongin didn't say anything and I heard him pick his fork back up. He felt the same inside. I can tell. He doesn't need to say anything. He knows I understand.
