~ Lia ~
I glanced at my boyfriend's ringing cellphone. He was showering, so I should obviously answer it, right?
Hesitating, I slid my finger across the screen to answer. I put it on speaker, a habit I have when on phone calls.
"Hello?"
"Uh—" The voice was shaking slightly. It was also hard to hear since there was lots of shuffling in the background. "Jeongin?"
They sounded incredulous since I'm obviously not the person who should be on the other end of the line.
"Sorry, I'm his girlfriend. He's not available to talk right now, but I can pass on a message? Or tell him to call back?"
"Um.. He needs to come over right now. His friend, Sam.. He's going crazy and we need him to go leave with someone."
My eyebrows furrowed, remembering all the things I've been told about Sam, but also the time we met. "Going crazy how?"
"Uh... Beating me up."
I thought hard before going up to Jeongin's bathroom door and knocking loudly. "I'll see if Jeongin can come. Give me a sec. I'll call back."
I hung up and put the phone in my pocket. I heard the shower turn off and a minute later, the door opened.
"God, what?! You're knocking like hell. What's up?"
Averting my eyes from his perfectly shirtless and half-naked body, I swallowed harshly.
"Someone called you on Insta. A Hyunjin? He said he needs you to come fetch Sam because he's going crazy. Beating him up."
He gaped. "You kidding?"
"No. It sounded really serious."
He groaned and rubbed a hand across his eyes, catching the soap that was still dripping from his hair.
"Now?"
I nodded.
Another groan. "God. Okay. Give me a few minutes and I'll be out. Get ready to leave. And can you get my stuff ready too?"
"Yup."
He went to close the door, but I held it slightly open.
"Kiss."
Rolling his eyes playfully, he pressed his lips meaningfully to mine and then closed the door, the lock clicking into place.
——
"What are you going to do about your shift?"
He sighed. "Call in. I don't know. It starts in like half an hour, so I.. have no idea."
I frowned. "I can watch him for you."
His wide eyes met mine for a second before they focused back on the road. "For real?"
"Yeah. Keep him in check."
"What if he hurts you?"
"I bet he won't."
He shook his head and set a hand on my thigh without looking. "Lia. He's my friend, but he still punched me. No reason he wouldn't do the same to you."
"Trust me. I'll be fine."
We pulled into the driveway and hopped out, running to the front door and knocking.
It opened in less than a second to someone I've never seen before.
"Why didn't you call back?" The guy scolded.
