~ Hyunjin ~
My mom gently knocked on my door and waited several seconds before opening the door. "Hyun? You aren't up yet?" She sat on the foot of my bed and patted the lump of my feet underneath the sheet.
I groaned and rubbed my eyes furiously. I hated waking up late.
"Time to get up, honey. School starts today, remember?"
I nodded with a pout. "I swear I set an alarm last night!" Unintentionally ignoring my mom, I pulled my phone from under the tangle of sheets, stuffed animals, and pillows via the charging cord it was connected to. I tiredly opened my clock app and saw that I had forgotten to turn on the alarm for my sleep schedule. Groaning again, this time in annoyance, I fixed the problem and set my phone down.
"You alright, son?" She moved to sit on the edge, closer to me.
"Yeah, just tired. I'm up, though, so you can go get ready for work." I placed my hand on top of hers. I really appreciated my mom for waking me up even though she has her own things to do.
She smiled beautifully and went mostly out the door before speaking with a wink. "Make sure to look good." With that, I was left alone to dress for the day.
This wasn't my first day at this school. I've actually been going here for three years already and this is my fourth. It was just a new school year, which may mean some new people, but likely not.
I chose out a white Tee, a beige cardigan to go over the shirt, ripped blue jeans, and, lastly, white platformed converse.
(This is the fit.)
Going into the bathroom, I didn't want to go all out so all I didn't put on any makeup or make my hair too nice.
Right as I went to leave and a feeling of relief spread in my chest, my twin brother appeared in the doorway. I almost evaded him this morning, but, apparently, the universe hates me.
He scrunched his nose in dislike as he waited for me to "get out of his way". I squeezed into the hall before any confrontation occurred. It almost surprised me how he can even bother to make a face at me when he just barely woke up and his face is double the size in puffiness.
The door slammed behind me and then my mom rushed up to me with a bear hug. "Bye, baby. I'm off to work. I love you so much and hope you enjoy your first day back!" She kissed my cheek and then went to attempt to repeat her actions to my brother. He simple kept the door closed and muttered uninterested responses in return.
Not long after, I was fully ready and decided to leave a bit early so I could hang out with my friends before class. We lived a mile away, so it took me around 20 minutes to arrive by walking at a casual pace.
My group of friends usually gathered at the tables behind the school whenever class wasn't in session. Upon turning the corner, my expression brightened. I had met up with a few of my closest buds over the summer, but since the group branched off into a large and vague population of kids, I hadn't seen many of them since June. They were all sitting and chatting at the red tables I missed dearly.
"Hyunjin!" Someone I had known for two years but could never remember the name of shot up and hurried over to me. We bro-hugged and then sat down together. "How have you been, man? We haven't texted much over summer."
"I'm real good, man. It's really nice to see all of you guys again. How've you been?" I absentmindedly scanned the crowd to find my closest friends, Seungmin, Bangchan, and Minho.
He responded positively and I excused myself to join the next table over. Many people were here, including my two eldest buds, but Seungmin wasn't here yet. "Bang! Minho!"
They beamed and Bangchan clapped me on the shoulder as I sat between him and a vaguely remembered person. Minho was on the other side of the person.
"You're here early!" Bangchan rested his arm around my shoulders.
"Of course I am! You guys are too! Did Minho drive you or something? Because you usually arrive last minute or late."
"Duh." Despite his tone, Minho was displaying a wide smile. He had to lean way forward to see us past the guy he sat next to.
We shared enjoyable conversation for roughly seven more minuted before our dongsaeng joined us. He squeezed in to sit facing us. "Hey, y'all."
"Seung!" I dapped him up. "Why are you coming late? You said you'd be here real early over text last night."
"Had to drive my sis and dad to work. And, school doesn't open for another twenty minutes anyway."
As mentioned, twenty minutes later, all entrances were opened and high school students flooded the old building. I went straight to my mathematics class first period since I knew this teacher started class as soon as he chose, regardless of whether or not the late bell had rung yet.
"Mr. Hwang." The middle-aged man acknowledged me from his desk. "How was summer break for you?"
He didn't look too interested as his eyes intensely searched his laptop screen. "Relaxing," I mumbled before sitting somewhere random.
