~Next morning~
~Tobias's pov~
I woke up with a severe hangover. I should not have drank so much.
"You're awake, huh." Aurora said with a light edge to her tone.
Her eyes were bloodshot, and her hair was tangled as if she hadn't slept the night before.
I quickly stood up and grasped her face.
"What happened? Baby, tell me-" In a fit of wrath, she threw my hand away.
"Never ever call me that..."Her teeth clenched. What the hell is going on?
What happened to her? I was ready to take her hand in mine when I noticed the file in her grasp.
"Aurora, that's an important file-"
"Traitor..."She spat out. My eyes widened in shock.
"Moron. CHEATER LIAR!" She screamed.
"Shhh Aurora, you're going to wake everyone up-"
"I DON'T CARE TOBIAS! "YOU HID YOUR IDENTITY FROM ME, AND THAT'S ALL I CARE ABOUT RIGHT NOW," she shouted.
My blood had grown stale, so I cupped her face and pecked her on the forehead.
"I never would-"
As blood flowed from my lips, I was hit with a metallic taste with the evident ringing in my ear.. She slapped me.
"You're lying to me, how dare you." She began walking towards me, her face flushed with wrath I'd never seen before. She wasn't the Aurora I remembered.
She pushed me to the wall and drew the slightest drop of blood from my neck with a knife. It wasn't the blood that concerned me.
It was the level of hatred I saw in her eyes. Those that used to look up at me with adoration were no longer there.
~Aurora's pov~
He looked confused, in pain, and vulnerable, just like the day he had his nightmare, but I knew otherwise. I could tell he was trying to make me weak.
"So tell me...How long have you been a spy?" I spat.
"A-Aurora-"I pressed harder on his neck with the blade.
"Aurora.."
Each time he mentioned my name, it became more difficult.
My name came out of his mouth like poison.
"Didn't you enjoy it?" You had fun with my pathetic feelings while using me as a cover. You enjoy it when I cry, don't you?" My voice was hoarse.
"N-No. I-I don't-"
"THOSE FUCKING LIES YOU KEEP TELLING." I choked back a sob.
His eyes welled up with tears. No, I'm not going to let him get to me.
I chuckled as tears streamed down my cheeks.
"How ironic that you tried to trap me... Me. Tobias, do you know who I am?"
"Who.." He spoke in hushed tones. I came further closer to his face, almost brushing our lips.
~Tobias's pov~
"A Russian secret police agent assigned to assassinate you." She dragged the knife down to my chest, whispering. Just where my heart briefly stopped."A..?"I asked in disbelief.
"Yes, I am A." She grinned menacingly.
I couldn't breathe and gasped. The person I have long loathed was right in front of me. I grabbed her wrist, flung her into the bed, and strangled her with my hand around her neck.
"How long have you known?" I scowled. She had a crazed grin on her face.
"Yesterday. I found out about it yesterday. I had no idea you were there underneath my nose." I pressed harder on her neck, suffocating her, and tears streamed down her cheeks as she smiled.
"I always assumed my husband would love me. The irony is that my own husband is planning to murder me." She burst out laughing.
I let go of her neck, my fingerprints left on it.
She laughed as tears streamed down her cheeks as she touched her neck.
I lowered my gaze to my hands. The same hands that strangled her...
"You know, you're the reason I began drinking in the first place." She mumbled.
My hands began to tremble.
"Every time I couldn't find you...I used to come home and drink till I became addicted, but I don't understand why only you can heal my addiction. You ruined me Tobias.."
~Aurora's pov~
I could still feel his fingertips on my neck. I was going insane...
"What have you done to me?" I murmured, glancing at myself in the mirror.
He marched right up to me and loomed over me.
"Have you wondered why I have nightmares? You are the reason I have them. My deepest fear was that Agent A would kill my family and my beautiful wife, but I had no idea that my own wife was Agent A..." He rasped as he choked back a sob.
My face had lost its sardonic humor as it twisted up in anguish.
"Did you ever love me, Tobias?" I softly touched his cheek, and he closed his eyes and leaned into my palm.
"More than I should..." he muttered. I drew him in a little closer.
"Kill me." I muttered, and his panicked eyes shot open. I laughed.
"Since I'm so pathetic that I can't murder you, you should just end it all by killing me. Tobias, you win." I put the knife I had brought to kill him in his hands.
"End us." I waited for agonizing pain and then death, but neither arrived.
Simply the sensation of holding some papers in my hand.
"No, I can't, and neither can you. So take the file and hand it over to your boss." He said as he averted his gaze. I couldn't stand the golden tint of the light on his face any longer. I dropped the file before grabbing him and kissing him.
He didn't pause as he dragged my waist closer and intensified the kiss.
As I wrapped my arms around him, his fingers danced with my hair.
"I love you so much it hurts."
He muttered something against my lips. I could almost taste the blood on his lips. The metallic taste lingered in my mouth.
I ran my thumb over his bloodied and scarred lips.
"I'm sorry...I shouldn't have done that." I muttered. He laughed.
"I honestly deserved it." He gave me a forehead kiss. I chuckled.
"But, I should not have strangled you. I-I could have killed you." He wrapped me in his arms, his face nestled into the crook of my neck.
"I'm more powerful than you realize, Love." I whispered into his ears. He shivered.
"Do you want to know what was written on the note?" He asked.
"Which note?"
"The murderer's note..."
"But, you already-"
"I lied."
