Ugh! Rain

As the night went on Ava couldn't sleep. The rain was so loud and Rachel was snoring the whole night! It was pouring outside, and the thunder didn't help with the noise either. She tosses and turns throughout the night. Finaily, at 1:07 am she falls asleep.
Ava and Rachel were on the couch at their house. Their parents were still at work. They were watching a series about the 2020s and how awful the years in quarantine were. Covid, murder hornets, mask! It was crazy, but fun to learn about the past. Their parents would come home and cook some of their favorite foods. It was the perfect life.
"Wake up Ava!" said Rachel as she shook Ava awake. "What?" asked Ava, squinting and not wanting to wake up. It was seven in the morning and Ava had barely gotten any sleep.
"We need to go, it's morning," said Rachel. "Is it still raining?" asked Ava sitting up. "Yes, now let's go!" said Rachel.
Ava puts on her shoes and grabs her bag. They all leave the hotel and get in the car. Then, they continue their journey to Antarctica.
It was very boring to just look out of the window, so Ava decided to get to know more about Lucy and Izzy. "So, how did you meet each other?" asked Ava, looking into the backseat. "We've known each other since childhood," said Izzy. "Why were you in Russia?" asked Ava, curiously. "We were taking trips to different places and we stayed in Russia for a few days," said Izzy, looking at Lucy. "While the world was on fire?" asks Ava. "We wanted to travel to places we always wanted to go before we died, but we're not dead yet!." said Lucy, gladly. "Question, are you two from Russia or somewhere else?" Lucy asks. "We were both born and raised there." Rachel says, not looking at anything but the road. "Cool," Izzy says, "Can you speak Russian?" she continues. "Что вы думаете?" Ava says, sarcastically. "What?" Izzy and Lucy ask. "She said 'What do you think?'" Rachel says, laughing. They all laugh. The conversation went on for a while, they all got to know each other better and what their lives were like before the apocalypse. After another hour of driving the rain stops. The clouds still covered the sun, but even a small breeze could move the cloud and reveal the Sun. It felt a little hotter with every passing minute, but it wasn't too bad yet.
Ava started to daydream as she looked out of the window. She thought about the long drive and the crisp winds in Antarctica. You could get chills just thinking about it, but it was hard to get chills when it was almost five hundred degrees outside.
The clouds started to drift away slowly in the sky. "Rachel, you might want to stop again." said Ava, looking at the small cloud blocking the sun.
"Yeah." said Rachel, looking for a place they could stay. There weren't that many places to go, so Rachel decided to drive into a movie theater. It was the only place that was good enough, there weren't many options close to the middle of nowhere.
Rachel parks the car in a very shaded area, they all get out of the car and go inside. The place was a mess, there was trash all over the floor, spilled drinks, and one bag of popcorn laying on the floor. It was very dark, and some lights were flickering. Rats were crawling all over the floor and there was moldy food everywhere. The plan is to wait until after sunset, there is a long time to go. It's only 12:16 pm and they had to wait until 7:45 pm.
An hour goes by, they explore the theater and find someone in one of the rooms. "Uh, who are you? How did you get here?" said the man, sitting in the third row of the seats. The man looked very pale, his hair was short, but he needed a haircut. His clothes were very dirty, it was like he hadn't changed clothes in weeks. He was skinny and had dark circles under his eyes. "I am Ava, what's your name?" asked Ava as she approached the man. "I'm Bryan, I forgot my last name though. I've been here for months, I have no family." said the man. "Do you need help? We're going to Antarctica, do you want to come with us?" asked Rachel, entering the room. "No, I want to see outside!" said Bryan, springing up and running out of the theater room. "Bryan, wait!" shouted Ava, running after him.
Rachel chases both of them right as they leave. They run down the hallway dodging the trash on the ground, trying to get to the front doors. Ava speeds up to Bryan and tackles him to the ground before he could leave. "You'll die if you go outside!" said Ava, pinning Bryan to the floor. "I don't care!" said Bryan, rolling to his side to get Ava off of him. Ava falls off of Bryan and he gets off the ground and sprints to the door. Bryan opens the door and runs outside into the sunlight. Everyone looks out of the window at Bryan. His skin was starting to burn as his clothes caught on fire. Bryan's skin started to melt off of his skin showing his red pulsing flesh, but he was too long gone to care. "Isn't it beautiful?" Bryan says, spinning in circles while staring at the sky. Not too long after, Bryan had melted into a puddle of flesh, bones, and ash. Those were the last moments of Bryan's life.
"N-Now we know what happens when we go outside," said Ava in shock. Trembling, they go back into the darkness of the theater and wait until the sun goes down. "I never thought I would ever see someone die." Lucy says, shocked. "Me neither." Izzy says. "That was the first time I saw someone die, but I have seen a dead body before." Ava says, sadly. "Really?" Lucy asks. "Where did you see a dead body?" Izzy asks, surprised. "It was my parents," Ava says, remembering being in that dark, dusty room full of death. "I'm so sorry, Ava." Lucy says, feeling sorry for her. "Rachel was there too." Ava says, looking at Rachel, holding back tears. A tear runs down Rachel's face as she too remembers that awful day. Lucy walks over to them and hugs them. "I'm always here for you if you need someone, okay?" Lucy says. "Thanks, Lucy." Ava says, smiling.
