Eight months went by, it was now June 8, 2074. It is the day before Rachel's 18th birthday! Ava is upstairs in her room trying to get an idea of what to get her sister for her birthday. She had nothing yet, she had no idea what an eighteen year old would like.
Then, she gets the perfect idea. Ava quickly grabs her thirty dollars out of her brown bag and rushes downstairs. "Got to go, bye!" Ava says as she runs out of the door. She knew that there would be something that Rachel would like at the jewelry store a few blocks away from their house. She gets to the store and opens the door. The doorbell makes a ringing sound like wind chimes as she enters the small, welcoming store. "Hi Ava, welcome back!" said Candice, the cashier, "Hi, Candice." Ava says, smiling at the lady. Candice was in her early twenties and looked a lot younger. She has a good sense of fashion and has many tattoos. She wore mostly black and had a lot of piercings. Ava liked how she dressed, but she would never try it. Ava starts looking around the store, but she only sees friendship bracelets, earrings, and tacky necklaces. Then, she starts to look at the necklaces with letters on them to see if there was anything. She looks through the R section to see a red heart necklace with a gold R in the middle. "Perfect!" said Ava, grabbing the necklace off of the shelf. Ava brings the necklace to Candice. "How much is this?" Ava asks. "Twenty five dollars." said Candice "Okay." said Ava, reaching into her bag. She pulls out the thirty dollars and lays it on the counter. Candice types some numbers into her small screen computer and puts five dollars onto the counter. Ava takes the five dollars and puts it in her pocket. "Okay, Ava. Thank you for shopping." Candice says. Ava takes the necklace off of the counter. "Thank you!" Ava shouts out as she runs out of the store almost running into someone. Ava runs down the street and to her house.
"There you are Ava! I was looking for you." said Rachel, standing on the porch waiting for her. "Hi, Rachel. Why were you looking for me?"
"I wanted to tell you that I got a job!" Rachel says, excitedly. "Really, where?" Ava asks. "Well, I have been going to nursing school for a few months. So, I'm a nurse assistant!" ''Wow, that's great Rachel! Did you tell mom and dad yet?" "Yes!" Rachel shouts.
The night goes by quickly and Ava can't stop thinking about the gift she got for Rachel. Ava lays in her bed now thinking about the dream she had a few months ago. She couldn't forget it and the Sun and Moon had gotten closer ever since then. The dream seemed so real, but she didn't think it had to do with anything. Then, she falls asleep.
Ava walks around wondering where she was, looking around at the red and white tent she was in. It was a circus with posters of people who performed there. She looks from one to the other until she finds a somehow familiar girl in one of the posters. It was a girl her age with bright yellow makeup juggling glowing balls in a kind of dark room. She was a clown who had a very nice smile. Ava looks closer at the poster and sees the girl's name. "Mary Mavis, the happiest clown on earth." The poster read.
Then, Ava opens her eyes and wakes up, confused as to why she had the dream. It was random, but it probably meant nothing. She lifts up the covers and puts her feet on the ground. "It's Rachel's birthday!" said Ava, talking to herself. She runs out of her room and sprints down the stairs where everyone else is. "Happy birthday!" Ava shouts to her sister. "Thanks!" said Rachel, she was wearing a light blue outfit and looked ready to go somewhere. Rachel looks at her watch and says "See you tonight."
She starts to pack her big black bag that looks like Ava's brown one and goes to the front door. "Wait, where are you going?" Ava asks. "Work!" Rachel said, grabbing her bag and opening the front door. "On your birthday?" Ava asks, a little disappointed. "Yeah, but I'll be back by 7:00 pm." Rachel says, walking out of the door and to her car. "Bye!" Rachel calls. "Bye." Ava says, sad that she wouldn't be able to spend the day with her sister. Rachel would probably move out in a matter of months since she was an adult now. Ava didn't want her sister to leave, but she knew that Rachel would visit often.
A few hours later, Rachel comes back home with the house dark. She couldn't see anything. She turns on the lights and there is a cake on the table. The cake is vanilla and has white frosting with red writing that says 'Happy birthday' on top. Then, Dan, Dina, and Ava stand up behind the table and shout, "Happy birthday, Rachel!"
Then, Ava throws confetti out from her hands. The colorful paper shreds float to the ground after a few seconds, creating a mess that she would have to clean. It was worth it to Ava though. Rachel covers her mouth with her hands in surprise. "Aw, thank you!" Rachel says, putting her hands down. "I got you a present!" said Ava, walking toward Rachel holding the necklace in the palm of her hand. Rachel takes the necklace out of Ava's hand. She holds it by the thin chain and puts the heart on her finger tips, so she can see it. "Wow, I love it! Where did you find this?" "Candice's jewelry store," said Ava, smiling. Rachel puts the necklace around her neck and clips it together. "Thanks, Ava!" Rachel says, happily. "You're welcome!" Ava says, glad her sister enjoyed the present.
Ava went to bed happy that night because her sister liked the gift. There was only one problem that would stand in her way. The things that would happen tomorrow were unthinkable, but Ava should have known what would happen...
