The sun had just set out of sight of the calm water as the moon barely had a reflection on the horizon making the tides higher than before. The waves started to pick up to about thirteen feet high. Lightning struck from the sky as rain started falling. The boat gets to the top of the first wave and goes slightly airborne and then crashes back to the water, waking everyone up with shock. They all sit up wide eyed. "What's happening?" Ava asks, half asleep. "I don't know!" Lucy says, scared. Rachel gets up and walks to the door but stops to look at them. "Stay here, I'll go check." Rachel says, opening the door and walking out of the room. She closes the door behind her and opens the door in front of her. She peaks outside to see the huge waves crashing onto the boat and pouring rain. Rain and water sprays Rachel from the door and soaks her completely. She closes the door no longer dry and walks back into the bedroom. "Woah, what happened to you?" Izzy asks, looking at Rachel's wet clothes. "There's a storm." Rachel says, closing the door behind her. The boat goes down another wave slightly lifting everyone into the air. They get slammed down back onto the ground, startling them. Thunder booms outside, making Lucy jump. "Yeah, I see that now." Ava says, sarcastically. "I'm going to check it out." Izzy says, carefully climbing down from the top bunk. She walks to the door as Rachel gets out of the way. "Be careful out there." Rachel says. "Right, don't worry." Izzy says. "I'm coming with her." Lucy says, getting up and standing next to Izzy. "What a good idea. Let's just all go outside right in the middle of a storm." Ava says, sarcastically, but also wanting to go. Rachel sighs. "I guess we're going back out then." Rachel says to herself as Izzy opens the door.
Everyone goes outside and gets soaked by the rain and ocean water. "Oh my god!" Ava says, looking around her with her clothes damp and hair wet. They all spread out around the boat looking at the mountains of waves. Then, the boat gets to the top of a wave. "Everyone hold on!" Rachel shouts, grabbing onto the side of the boat. Everyone grabs a hold of either the boat or a loose rope hanging down from the sail. The boat drops making everyone levitate for a second before putting them back on their feet. "This is crazy!" Lucy shouts over the loud noises around them. Lightning lights up the dark clouds in the sky as the wind picks up, tossing the rain in every direction. The ship stays still for a second before beginning to climb up another wave. Rachel lets go of the boat and runs across the boat to Ava. "We can't stay out here, we have to go!" Rachel shouts over all of the noise. "Yeah, I'll go get Lucy!" Ava shouts back. Ava turns the other way to start running before getting caught by Rachel. "Hold on!" Rachel shouts, grabbing the side of the boat still holding Ava. Izzy grabs onto a loose rope again and Lucy turns around clueless after hearing Rachel shout something. "Wait, what?" Lucy shouts back, not hearing Rachel. "Hold on to something!" Rachel shouts back. The boat falls down the wave and crashes against the water, knocking Lucy into the air. The moment felt so slow but so fast, just watching Lucy in the air reach out to them but having nothing to grab onto. "No!" Izzy shouts. Gravity drags her down into the water with a splash, and she vanishes from sight. "Lucy!" Ava and Rachel shout. They all run to the front of the boat trying to find Lucy, but they see nothing. "Lucy, no!" Izzy shouts, leaning over the boat reaching her arm out to the water. Rachel stares at the water in shock of what had just happened. Ava runs around the sides of the boat looking at the water trying to see if Lucy was there but she wasn't. "W-We have to get her!" Izzy says, climbing over the side to get to the water. "Izzy, no!" Ava says, pulling Izzy back. Rachel sits down leaning her back against the boat, breathing heavily. Izzy starts sobbing as Ava grabs both of their arms, pulling them away from the side of the boat and to the door. "We have to go!" Ava says, dragging both of them across the ship. Izzy tries to fight Ava, but Ava doesn't let go for anything.
They go back inside with one less person and much more sorrow. Everyone sits on their bed still shocked from what happened while Izzy still balled her eyes out. Ava gets up and climbs onto the bunk on top of hers to Izzy. She sits next to Izzy and wraps her arm around her trying to comfort her. "I'm sorry." Ava says, staring down at Rachel noticing a small cut on her forehead. Izzy turns to face Ava, pulling away from her arm before pouncing on her, hugging her tightly. Ava hugs her back and pats her on her back a few times. Izzy's wimpers made everyone feel depressed. Izzy and Lucy had been friends many years before they met Ava and Rachel, so losing her was basically like losing a family member. "Things will get better, don't worry." Ava says, softly. "How?" Rachel shouts, standing up suddenly. Her eyes fill with tears making her eyes red. "How will things get better? Lucy's dead! She was the best of us and now she's gone." Rachel says with tears streaming down her face. Ava jumps down onto the floor and stands in front of Rachel. Ava wraps her arms around her sister. "I don't actually know that things will be better, but if Lucy were here she would say that we need to have hope." Ava says, pulling away from the hug. "I'll be right back." Ava continues, opening the trap door on the floor and going downstairs. She walks all the way to the closet to get three towels and finds new clothes in one of the drawers. "Huh, this is perfect!" Ava says, grabbing the clothes. She finds a green shirt and camo pants. "Nice." Ava says quietly to herself. She closes the closet door and locks it. She takes off her soaked clothes and tosses them onto the ground to put on the nice new clothes.
After changing, she takes more clothes she thinks will be Izzy and Rachel's style and starts heading back up with everything. She gets back upstairs and closes the door behind her. "You guys can't stay soaking wet." Ava says, handing each of them a pair of clothes and a towel. "Thanks." Rachel says, sighing and giving a small smile while Izzy just cries into the towel. Ava silently sighs, feeling bad for both of them.
Rachel wraps the towel around herself and starts to dry herself. Ava lays down in her bunk thinking about Lucy and her warm personality and how she could brighten a room just by being there. Ava missed her, she was one of the only friends she ever had, her first friend really. Thinking so much about her made her tear up. She turns to face the wall so no one could see her crying, but they might have already known. Rachel leaves the room and goes downstairs with her pair of clothes. Ava wipes the tears off of her face and sits up to see a glimpse of Rachel going down from the trap door. Ava sits up now realizing that Izzy had stopped crying. "Are you okay up there, Izzy?" Ava asks, softly. "Yeah, I just wish I could have done something more." Izzy says, sniffling. "I do too, I tried to save her, but..." Ava says, going silent. The only thing she could think about was Lucy's face, it was a look of pure terror, but it was like she knew she wasn't going to make it. "I just don't know what we're going to do without her." Izzy says, sadly. "I don't know, we just have to carry on. We can't stop here, we're too close." Ava says. "I know. Do you think that she would be proud of us when we get there?" Izzy asks, full of hope. "I bet she would, and she would say 'finally' when we got there in the most sarcastic way." Ava says, smiling. They both laugh weakly. "She would." Izzy says. Ava grabs her towel and starts drying her hair as Rachel steps back into the room dry with her new clothes on. She was wearing a dark blue shirt with tight leather black pants. "It's nice, thanks Ava." Rachel says, smiling at Ava. "I like it." Izzy says. "Thanks, and you have a pair as well." Rachel says. "Right, I'll be right back." Izzy says, climbing down the ladder with the pair of clothes in her arms. She opens the trap door and goes downstairs. Rachel sits next to Ava. "At least you can see out of both eyes." Ava says, looking at Rachel. Rachel laughs. "Yeah." Rachels says, wrapping her arm around Ava. Ava takes off her eye patch. "Yikes." Rachel says, leaning away from her. "Really?" Ava says, shoving Rachel in a playful way. They both laugh as Ava puts it back on.
"I still can't believe that happened." Rachel says, remembering the cougar. "I can't believe it hurt so much." Ava says, remembering the pain she was in. "Well yeah, you have a huge scar from it!" Rachel says. Ava nods her head. "There was so much blood." Ava says, with her eyes going wide. "Oh, I remember!" Rachel says, wishing it hadn't happened. Izzy comes back into the room wearing beige pants and a bright red shirt. "It's nice." Izzy says. They all think that Lucy would have worn the outfit Izzy had if she were there. "It looks good on you." Ava says. "Thanks for picking it out, mate!" Izzy says, feeling better than before. "You're welcome." Ava says, smiling at her. Izzy climbs to her bunk and Rachel goes to hers. "What now?" Ava asks. "We could just go to sleep..." Izzy says. "We could." Ava says. "I guess there's nothing else to do." Rachel says, turning off the light and laying down. Ava and Izzy lay down and stare up at the ceiling blankly. "Are you guys even tired?" Ava asks, not wanting to go to sleep. "Honestly, not really." Izzy says, leaning over the edge of her bunk to look over at them. "Are you feeling better?" Ava asks. "Not the best, but yeah. Thanks for...you know, making me feel better about her." Izzy says, staring at Ava. "I'm always here to help. I always have been." Ava says. "Anything for a friend, right?" Izzy says. Ava gets a warm feeling that Izzy thinks of her as a friend. Ava smiles but no one could see because it was too dark. "Yeah, anything for a friend..." Ava whispers. "I'm going to go to sleep now." Ava says, turning to face the wall. "Okay, goodnight!" Izzy says, laying back down. They all fall asleep waiting for what the next day will bring.
