The Last day on Earth

Burning!

They walked for an hour, and they were close to getting out of the woods. The sun was starting to come out from behind the clouds so they had to hurry. The rain had stopped not too long ago, but everyone was still soaking wet. "We don't have much time before the sun comes out, hurry!" shouts Rachel. They still had six miles before they could get out of the forest. They all ran as fast as they could to get out of the woods. They ran one mile and the sun was peeking out from the clouds slightly, it was getting hotter every minute. They ran without stopping, they ran as fast as they could. If they stayed in the sun too long, they would die.
They ran another mile and the sun was even closer to coming out all of the way. "We're not going to make it!" shouted Lucy, out of breath.
"We will! Just run faster!" Ava shouted back. Everyone was out of breath, but they had to keep running. They were now four miles in, and the sun was a little more than half way out. Izzy stops running and falls to her knees. Everyone stops with her. "We have to keep going!" said Ava, gasping for air. "I can't run anymore!" said Izzy, breathing hard. "Then, get on Scar!" said Ava, rushing. "No, I'm not riding a bear!" Izzy shouted, nervously.
"It's life or death, Elisabeth!" shouted Ava, walking to Izzy and reaching out her hand offering to help her up. Izzy grabs Ava's hand and gets off the ground with dirt on her knees. She walks over to Scar and jumps onto his back. Everyone starts running again, with barely any time left.
They were all dripping with sweat, and their skin was starting to burn in the heat. They got to five miles in and they all felt like they would die. They desperately needed to stop, but they couldn't. The sun was up and burning hot. The ground was covered in ash ready to burst into flames. The wind picked up and swirled around the dust. They kept on running. Then, Ava trips on a tree root sticking out of the ground and breaks her foot. Ava fell to the ground grabbing her foot in pain. "Ava!" shouts Rachel, running over to Ava. Rachel picks Ava off the ground and carries her to Scar while speed walking. Rachel puts Ava on Scar's back and Izzy gets off.
They run until they get to the road. Everybody turns in a circle looking for shelter before they reach Bryan's fate. They spot a mall very close by. They run to the mall and go inside. Everyone tried to breathe, but the running had almost stopped their hearts. They were all covered in dust, ash, and burns. "We made it." said Ava, still trying to catch her breath. "Barely," said Izzy, brushing off her knees with her hands. "You're not kidding!" said Rachel, breathing hard. Ava lays her legs on the ground and slips off of Scar. "Thanks buddy." said Ava, talking to Scar. Ava looks at Rachel with worry as they both know what she has to do. Ava reaches into her bag and pulls out a towel. Izzy and Lucy look at each other confused. Ava notices their look. "I have to snap my foot back in place." said Ava, looking back and forth at Lucy and Izzy. "You have to do what?" asks Izzy in disbelief. They both look at Ava in shock of what she said. Ava sighs. "You can leave if you don't want to see this," said Ava. "I think we'll be fine." said Lucy, trying to silence the voice saying that it will be bad to watch.
"Are you sure? It's not a pretty thing to see." said Ava. "We're sure," said Izzy, nervously. "If you say so," said Ava. Ava puts the towel in her mouth and grabs her foot with both of her hands. She exhales through her nose, closes her eyes, and snaps her foot back into place with a loud crack. Ava screams, but the towel muffles it. "Are you okay?" asked Rachel, knowing that had to hurt. Ava takes the towel out of her mouth. "Fine." Ava whimpers as Lucy falls to the ground unconscious.
Ava grabs the bandage roll from her bag and wraps her foot in the bandage. Rachel and Izzy run over to Lucy and Ava crawls over to help. Ava gets to Lucy's side. "Lucy?" said Izzy, sitting next to Lucy. Izzy grabs Lucy's shoulders and shakes her aggressively. Izzy stops shaking Lucy and Rachel starts walking away. "Where are you going?" asked Ava, still in pain. "I'm getting something that might help," said Rachel. Rachel walks out of sight and Ava gets on top of Izzy and slaps her in the face. Lucy still doesn't wake up. "I thought that would work," said Ava, getting off of Lucy, disappointed. Rachel comes back with a cup of water. Ava knows what she's about to do. Rachel splashes Lucy in her face with the cup of water and she wakes up soaked. Lucy gasps and sits up. She looks around confused. "What happened? Where-?" asks Lucy, starting to remember why she passed out. "Oh, right." said Lucy, with her face stinging from Ava slapping her. Rachel leaves again and comes back with a towel. "Here," says Rachel, handing Lucy the towel. The towel was a faded pink color with a small tag sticking out of the end of it. "Thanks." said Lucy, wrapping herself in the towel. They would have tried to have had a fun time in the mall, but everyone was tired and injured. Then, Ava remembers that there are showcased cars in malls like the one they were in. ''Rachel, go look for a car! They should have one.'' said Ava, looking at Rachel with hope. Rachel thinks for a moment, then her face lights up. "You're right!" said Rachel.
She runs around the store for about ten minutes and comes back looking doubtful. "Did you find anything?" asked Ava, hopefully. "There was a car, but I couldn't find the key." said Rachel, putting her hands in her pockets and looking at the ground. Ava loses hope about the car. They all find a camping store and grab two large tents. Then, they go to another store and grab eight blankets. They set up the tents and lay a blanket at the bottom.
Rachel and Ava go in one tent, Izzy and Lucy go in the other. They wrap themselves in blankets and fall asleep easily. Ava didn't have time to worry or think of anything. She was too tired from running. Still, it was hard for her to fall asleep from the pain in her leg. They had no pain medicine and they didn't think to look for any. They were all just glad to get some rest before another long night of walking.
