Truth be told, Mercedes didn't expect her first mission to go well. She expected to get hurt, or almost get hurt, and never have to go out on a mission again, but that wasn't the case. Turns out, she was actually a good asset in the field, and everyone could easily work with her. The only problem was, she wasn't going to be in her lab at all times incase someone got hurt and needed medical attention.
"I want to talk to Fury, see if I can change what he has me doing." Mercedes told Natasha, and the woman shrugged.
"I'll bring you to him, but I don't know if he'll change anything." Natasha replied, causing Mercedes to sigh.
Mercedes and Natasha headed to Fury's office, and the moment Mercedes walked inside, she knew it was going to be a tough discussion. She wasn't sure if Fury would even listen to her reasoning, or if he would just tell her to do what he said and nothing else. Honestly, she hoped for the best, but she was prepared for the worst.
"What can I help you with, doctor Stark?" Fury asked, crossing his arms.
"I was hoping you and I could come to an agreement about the missions." She commented, making him nod slightly.
"And what agreement would that be?" He asked, raising an eyebrow.
"So, I wasn't very comfortable working in the field like the other agents. I'm much more comfortable in a lab environment, or working with medical care. I was thinking, maybe instead of me working in the field, that I could be put on emergency calls. Meaning, whenever someone is hurt real bad, I can be sent to their location instead of potentially putting my life at risk being out there the entire time. If I die or get hurt real bad, nobody there'll be able to help me, or help any of the other injured agents. I just think it'd be safer and easier for all of us this way." She stated, watching as no emotion seemed to show on Fury's face.
"It's too bad you don't want to work in the field, Doctor, I've heard that you were a good asset," He commented,"but, if this is what you'd rather do, and you understand that you could be called at any minute, and you'd have to drop whatever you're doing and go, then by all means, I think we can work with your idea." He said, and she nodded quickly.
"I completely understand how it'll work, and I'm happy we've agreed to work it out this way." She replied, making him nod once again.
"Is there anything else you need, doctor Stark?" He asked, but she shook her head.
"No, sir, that's all." She answered, standing up from her seat.
Natasha was waiting outside of Fury's office for Mercedes, so when Mercedes stepped out of the office, Natasha questioned her about the meeting. Mercedes told her about the arrangement, and Natasha was glad that it seemed to work out for the doctor. She knew that Mercedes wasn't too happy about going out in the field, so she hoped Fury would agree, but if he hadn't, Natasha would make sure to keep Mercedes safe as best as she could.
When Mercedes entered her lab, after saying goodbye to Natasha, she was surprised to see Clint waiting for her. He was spinning around in her spinning stool, as he worked on his bow. The moment he seen Mercedes, he stopped the chair, put down his bow, stood up, and walked over to her. He placed a gentle kiss on her lips, and the two smiled at each other.
"I heard your first mission went well." He commented, and she nodded.
"Yes, but I talked to Fury, and he's agreed to making me an emergency asset instead of a field agent. I told him I was more comfortable with medical care, and he agreed to making it where I will be on call for an medical emergency in the field." She said, causing Clint to sigh in relief.
"That's good," He replied,"keeps me from having to worry about your safety for endless hours." He added, making her laugh quietly.
"So, are you off for the day?" She asked, as she packed up her few notebooks and such in her bag.
"Yeah, and I don't have another mission until next week. So, for now I'm all yours." He answered, causing her to blush.
"I like the sound of that." She replied, placing a kiss on his cheek.
"Hey, do you wanna go out to dinner with me tonight?" He asked,"I was thinking we could go to dinner, then maybe see a movie." He commented, and she nodded.
"Yeah, let's just stop by my place to feed Mox, and I can change out of these clothes." She said, grabbing her bag.
The two drove separate cars to Mercedes' place, since Clint didn't want to walk home, nor did he want Mercedes to have to drive him home. Once they were at Mercedes' apartment, Clint went inside to feed Moxley, while Mercedes went to her room to change into a more comfortable outfit.
"You want to buy candy at the theater, or do you want me to bring a purse so we can sneak candy in?" Mercedes asked,"It's cheaper if we get some from the store, but it's whatever you want to do." She commented, and he nodded.
"We can stop at the store." He replied, so she went to her room and grabbed a nice purse.
She was Mercedes Stark after all, so she didn't want anyone to think she was too cheap for nice things. Besides, Pepper often sent her expensive purses and shoes for her birthday or random holidays, sometimes even as random gifts when Pepper was missing her. Pepper was like the mom Mercedes always wanted, but of course, she never actually got that. She was just glad she had Pepper in her life, especially with a father as eccentric as Tony Stark...
