The next day, Mercedes recieved a text. It was a short text, but she knew what it meant. She had only a couple of hours before her father knew the truth, and it wasn't a part of her plan. She wanted to ask questions, but she didn't exactly know what was going on, so she didn't want to possibly bother Clint or cause a problem for him.
Mercedes cleaned the house as best as she could, even though it wasn't easy. Her belly was big, considering she was six, close to seven months pregnant. She knew the gender of the baby, but she and Clint hadn't told Natasha yet. They wanted to tell her the next time she visited, which seemed to be today instead of Mercedes birthday which was in a month.
Once almost everything was spotless, she went to the kitchen and started making lemonade and juice. She didn't know what they all drank, especially Thor and Steve, but she wanted to try and have something for all of them. After making the drinks, she made some cookies for everyone to snack on.
The moment he smelt the cookies, Bean came running into the kitchen from the living room. Bean loved when his mother made cookies, and he had to have one as soon as they were cool enough to eat. As soon as she gave him one, he took a bite of the chocolate-y goodness, and hummed with happiness.
After a couple of more cookies, Bean went back to the living room to watch Dragon Tales and play with toys. Moxley played a bit as well, but there was only so much a dog could do when playing cars. The most he could really do was push the car around with his paw, and make noises that would tell if he agreed or disagreed with something Bean told him.
As Mercedes watched them play, she heard boots walking up the steps on the porch. She glanced out the window, and her heart began to beat rapidly in her chest. She could see everyone coming up towards the house, and she was terrified. This was the moment of truth, and that made her want to throw up from nerves.
Clint was the first to walk in with Natasha at his side. Her arm was slung over his shoulder, and she wasn't looking to well. The moment she seen Mercedes though, she seemed to perk up a bit. She removed her arm from Clint, and gave the girl a grin.
"Hey, Mercy." Natasha said, as she walked over and hugged the woman.
"Auntie Nat!" Bean exclaimed, as he jumped up from the floor and ran to his favorite aunt.
Natasha quickly bent down to his level and scooped him up in her arms. She kissed the side of his head and cradled him close. Mercedes could tell that he was helping her in ways that he'd never know.
"So, is the baby a boy or a girl?" Natasha asked, as the other started filing into the house.
"A girl." Mercedes replied, and Natasha silently cheered, causing Bean to laugh.
"Hey, honey. Sorry about bringing everyone, we just needed somewhere to lay low." Clint commented, trying to keep things calm.
"Yeah, sorry for intruding. We never --" Steve began, but Tony cut him off.
"Mercedes?" He questioned, looking at her with wide eyes.
"Hey, Dad." She murmured, waving to him slightly.
"W-what the hell is this?" He rhetorically asked, looking around in shock.
"Ooh, you said a mean word!" Bean exclaimed, pointing at Tony.
"Bean, hey my buddy." Clint cooed, as he grabbed his son from Natasha's arms.
"Hey, my Daddy." Bean replied, a grin on his face.
"I-I need a minute." Tony said, before he turned and left the house.
Mercedes went to walk after him, but Natasha stopped her by grabbing her arm.
"Give him a minute, Mercy. We're all running on fumes, and he's needs to take a breather." She said, and Mercedes simply nodded.
"How do you know Tony?" Steve asked, gaining Mercedes attention.
"I'm his daughter, Mercedes Stark, nice to meet you, Cap." She replied, giving him a smile.
"And you're Barton's girlfriend?" He asked, and she nodded.
"My fiancé." Clint interjected, giving her a kiss on the cheek.
"This is our son, Nathan, but we call him Bean. Honestly, we never use his first name unless he's in trouble." Mercedes added, motioning to the little boy in Clint's arms.
"And you're pregnant?" Dr. Banner asked, not to be rude, but simply curious.
"Yes, almost seven months, with a little girl." Mercedes answered, rubbing her belly lightly.
"Congratulations, Lady Mercedes." Thor said, causing the woman to smile.
"Just Mercedes, guys, or Mercy if you want, that's what Tasha and Clint call me." She commented, and the others nodded.
"I'll go check on Tony." Steve suggested, causing Mercedes to sigh.
"I will," Mercedes murmured,"you guys go and relax. Take showers if you want, and there's room where you can lay down. Clint can show you where you can stay." She said, and everyone nodded.
Natasha and Mercedes caught eyes for a moment, and Natasha gave Mercedes a reassuring nod. Natasha was definitely worried about Mercedes and how Tony would react to seeing her and recieve all the news. Mercedes didn't want it to be today that she told him everything, but she really didn't have a choice.
She hoped that her father wouldn't hate her. She hoped that he would understand, or at least forgive her enough to make her feel like she wasn't the world's worst daughter. Mercedes really hated herself after seeing the look of betrayal and hurt that was written all over his face when he seen her. She wished she had never seen it, now it was etched into her memory forever.
She had never seen him so disappointed in her. Yes, there were times where he had been mad before, but it had never felt this bad. She absolutely hated the way she was feeling, and she knew her father was feeling way worse...
