...Her presence was a tender ruse I love to fall for...

'Please don't be like this. Show me your real emotions, Zariah. Complete the talks we left behind. Say what you stopped.'

I thought, not removing my eyes from Zariah who was working with a ruthless gaze.

Discussing with David, her guard, about her plan of burning Axel's warehouse, the void in her tone was tensing me.

That was what I never wanted her to be; A puppet working on orders.

I never anticipated this would leave me at this stressful point. Why couldn't I accept this side of hers?

I was so confused between her real and fake emotions.

Was this her true appearance or the demeanor she held with me?
Which one was true?

"Make sure to shut down the security room, I need at least an hour." She instructed her guards.

"Yes, Ma'am." He nodded.

"Who would have known this meager place would be so significant." She smirked, contemplating the map of his warehouse.

"Ah, it is going to be a lot of fun." The glint of malice was crystal, almost showing the bloodlust she held.

She was the definition of danger, the person you would never want to make your enemy.

But at the same time, a question rose to my mind; 'When you are so strong then why are you weak for me?'

"Are you going to burn it alone?" I asked, intrigued, mostly strained to think about her well being to do such a fatal job alone.

"Yeah, so? It's not much of a hassle." She mumbled, closing the map.

"I brought his tower down once alone too. That was how I got the name Crazy Zariah." She chuckled dryly, not even paying attention to my words but it irked me.

"Do you know what you are saying? I don't care what you did before but it's dangerous for one person to burn a whole storage alone." I spoke in disbelief, grabbing her arm, turning her to me.

"Do you think you can do it alone? What if you get hurt?" My desperation laced voice gained attention but I didn't care.

Her protection perturbed me.

"Do you think I can't do this alone?" She asked, arching a brow in ire, almost scowling.

During work, her work became her priority and it came as a mock.

"What do you consider me? A porcelain doll? Stop worrying needlessly." She taunted, yanking her hand back. The coldness dripped and my concern for her was making things complicated.

Just how we were on the verge of a breakdown before and now stuck between work and obligations.

"Don't meddle in my work, think about yours." She said strictly, setting her collar as I stared at her face in hopelessness.

"Boss." Amanda called, putting her hand on my shoulder, rolling her eyes off Zariah left with her men, not caring about my condition.

"Leave us alone." De Villiers ordered everyone, disquiet about my behavior but I can't help it.

It was slipping out of my hands, maybe it was the scant time but I couldn't stop it.
"But-"

"Do it." He said as everyone left us alone.

When we were alone, my posture broke, "Fuck!"

Slamming my hand on the table, I rubbed my temples, fuming with rage to realize how I strayed before emotions.
