How was the first chapter?

- (Y/N) -

Summer of 2022

𝕿𝖍𝖊 night sky was shrouded in darkness, utterly devoid of the gentle glow of the moon or any shimmering stars. The rain poured down heavily, driven by a fierce wind that whipped around, capturing (Y/n) Wilkins' very essence. Despite her efforts to shield herself with an umbrella, it proved no match for the relentless gales. She discarded it without a second thought. Once a cherished possession, a gift from the mother of a friend many years ago during her school days, it had been a gesture of kindness, perhaps out of pity for her frequent soaking in the rain. Now it lay shattered and useless, much like the relationship that had led to its bestowal.

That umbrella held sentimental value, representing the first gift she had ever received. Yet, it was tainted by the ill will of its giver. Her child had been the perpetrator of torment and hurtful bullying she had endured at the hands of their classmates. The umbrella was a feeble attempt at compensation, falling woefully short of making up for the hurt caused. But as she stood there, drenched and battered by the elements, she realized that the past was just that - the past. It no longer held any sway over her.

She found herself strolling along the bridge, clenching her body tightly to fend off the creeping chill. It wasn't the rainy season; in fact, it was summer.

So why was it pouring?

Had the climate really taken such a turn for the worse?

If it wasn't COVID-19 before, now they had to face the onslaught of pelting rain, thunder, and lightning, all spurred on by strong gusts of wind.

She shook her head, unwilling to dwell on the thought creeping into her mind - but she couldn't help but wish that the homeless, and the stray dogs and cats, would be safe in this weather and find shelter.

She was making her way back to the house where she was temporarily staying. She had been at her friend's house, at Shane's. Shane had called her earlier, seeking help with baking for her boyfriend. The same boy Phoebe, Rose, and she disliked due to his jerkish behavior. Shane wasn't a good baker, and although she wasn't either, she had far more experience. After her mother passed away four years ago, her younger brother had taken her under his wing to raise and care for her.

Uncle Orius, though her mother's brother, had a distinctly different personality. Her mother had been kind and genuine, with a warm personality that shone through her eyes. Uncle Orius, on the other hand, was the complete opposite - his attractive face cloaked in mischief and mystery.
