It had been weeks since we last spoke. Talk less of sharing a bed together. The wall drawn between us was so hard we could hardly talk to each other past greetings. I buried myself in work while he did same, I suppose or maybe he distracted himself with some other woman with me ignoring him as usual excuse. I did care but at a certain point I just got numb to all his tactics to rile me up. I did notice his increase in drinking pattern. He went out more and returned late at night, wasted. At times, he wouldn't return at night and whenever I asked, he would rudely shut me off. So, I reclined on asking anymore questions.
Fortunately for me, I didn't have much to do since Javier was off on a business trip and I could close earlier. It was a warm evening and I was up watching k-drama on Netflix. As usual, Christian was out without a care about informing me on his whereabouts again. Taking a look at the wall clock, I sighed taking a sip from my glass of mango juice I got out of the fridge earlier. It's awfully late and he wasn't back yet. I noted
I was halfway through the episode when I heard a click at the front door and heavy footsteps. I immediately stood up from the couch and walked up to him.
"Finally. I've been calling for hours. You got me worried there." I cried.
"Just went out to have a drink with my friends." He said groggily.
"And couldn't respond to my texts or calls?" I asked, my arms folded across my chest.
"Careful you almost sound worried." He said sarcastically.
"Because I am. Last I checked, we were still in a relationship and soon to be wed so whether we're in disaccord or not, we still owe each other everything of our whereabouts." I replied
He sighed. "Right. We're in a relationship..."
"Don't give me that. Where have you been?" I insisted
"Do you even want to be in the relationship?" He asked out of the blue and I felt silent before responding.
"I don't know. You tell me. Because lately you're starting to give me reasons to withdraw from it entirely. " i replied.
"So, you don't love me anymore? Because of him." He said bitterly.
"No, I still love you but being around you feels hard because you keep trying to control me like I'm an object or a pet you own." i said truthfully.
"So, me protecting you is domineering now? " he scoffed. "I bet if he did the same, it wouldn't be considered controlling. " he grumbled flopping onto the sofa.
"Why do you keep bringing him into this? We're talking about me and you here." I said joining him on the sofa. "I get that you're angry or jealous. But he's part of my past which I can't change. "
"Yeah, I was part of your past too but you came back to me." i hissed.
Touché. "But this is different. You're different. We were in a different place and were different people then." I pleaded holding his hands. "I am yours now and I love you. " I reassured him, rubbing his cheek affectionately.
His usually well trimmed bearded seem to have grown a little more than usual. Probably due to the turmoil we've been through these past days. His head fell unto my chest with a sigh.
"Want to rest?" I joked.
"Maybe... I just want to feel your warmth. " he said lowly. We adjusted ourselves such we laid on the sofa: me cradling his head on my chest as he positioned himself between my legs. I ran my hand through his hair.
"You need a trim." I whispered.
"Mhhmm." He mumbled.
I guess he was sleepy. I sighed looking up to the ceiling. I wish we could just do this rather than argue each time. I thought as I closed my eyes and faded to the sleep world.
